Staff interest lies in the ability to perform their work, contribute to continuous improvement, and have a reasonable work-life balance. Finally, they want to be able to contribute to their careers, have defined career paths, and have attainable development goals for advancement. A well-designed quality management system can contribute to provide all these employee benefits.

At a systems level, human resource policies such as recruiting, onboarding, succession planning, high potential identification, leadership development, work-life balance, accommodations for differently abled employees, benefits, rewards and recognition, and performance systems all need to support the goal of inclusion, and many organizations written policies do so today. 

Work-life balance policies and practices allow me to balance my personal and work life effectively. 

To become an employer preferred by top talent, leaders need to understand the desires and interests of this diverse job applicant pool. Factors such as the quality of leadership, policies regarding work-life balance, and career development programs are increasingly a part of the decision process. Compensation and benefits are also key factors used by these new entrants when they accept job offers and as they ponder whether they will stay with an employer. 

The need for work life balance and individual choices will be more evident. Health and wellness will be stressed for employees, not only for their own good, but also to help prevent and reduce health care expenses.

When we interacted with Big Store, they were doing very well in terms of corporate financial performance. However, there was low morale in some parts of the organization. Some felt that the celebrated financial gains were gotten at the cost of overworking and undervaluing employees. Like Big Bank, lack of work-life balance was a major factor that contributed to employee exhaustion. Big Store s culture was top-down in terms of decision making. 

The seven aspects of fairness that we found across the organizations were Fair and legal staffing or recruiting processes. Fair professional development practices. Fair compensation. Fair promotion practices. Fair policies and norms. Fair treatment, and Fair work-life balance. 

We talk a lot about work-life balance these days. 

Young Parents Flexibility is the key in helping to ease work/life balance issues. For example, flexible start times and work schedules enable parents to drop off or pick up children from child-care or school. Part-time positions or work-share programs help during early the years of child-bearing and child-rearing.
