Words of power

Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain. Binah The Divine Names or words of power shall not be used for acts that transgress the Universal Good. [Pg.12]

As the serpent burns, Hui recites the words of power from the text. Starting with, Fire be upon thee Apep, thou enemy of Ra, he... [Pg.19]

Magical names were often inscribed on objects as a type of word of power. In The Book of the Dead, a book written for the deceased and enclosed in the tomb with him or her, magic names, as words of power, were provided for all the spirits one was likely meet in the afterlife. This was to help the deceased command the spirits and continue on his or her journey. Also, as in the story of Hui, by inscribing the name Apep on the wax snake Hui empowered the image and used it to destroy Apep s influence over him. [Pg.29]

The proper incantation Essentially, the incantation is a form of words of power and this is the main part of the ritual. As with... [Pg.68]

Lavoisier s appearance at this juncture was timely. Chemistry was m dire need of such a figure. Here was a man of influence whose voice was not lost. His were the words of power and position, not only m the councils of natural philosophers, where he had no peer, but also m the assemblies of politics, where he played a leading part. Lavoisier was heard, and science profited by the tactics of the publicity agent. Liebig said of him, He discovered no new body, no new property, no natural phenomenon previously unknown His immortal glory consists in this—he infused into the body of science a new spirit. ... [Pg.65]

Q The curcurbite is again placed upon the white triangle upon the Altar. The Alchemist repeats the words Child of Earth, Long has thou dwelt in darkness, quit the night and seek the day, then holding the Lotus wand by the white end, say I formulate in thee the invoked forces of Light , then reciting the mystic words (words of Power from the Enochian Watch Towers). [Pg.106]

For inner Hearing, we have texts with a profound resonance in these three modes. Words and sentences carry within them an unsuspected soul. A text which has been profoundly thought about, read and reread by hundreds of Adepts before us - such a text becomes, in a way, a series of words of power. [Pg.50]

The rate of storage of chemical potential (in other words, the power P carried by the chemical reaction) isypg, where j = d/j/dt = the net flux per unit volume (here, as elsewhere, lower case letters denote concentrations,... [Pg.2822]

The predominant air pollution problem of the nineteenth century was smoke and ash from fhe burning of coal or oil in the boiler furnaces of stationary power plants, locomotives, and marine vessels, and in home heating fireplaces and furnaces. Great Britain took the lead in addressing this problem, and, in the words of Sir Hugh Beaver (3) ... [Pg.5]

The augmentation of power in a gas turbine is achieved by many different techniques. In this section, we are looking at techniques, which could be achieved on existing gas turbines. Thus, techniques such as additional combustors are not considered as being practical on an existing turbine. In other words, the concentration in this section is on practical solutions. Practical power augmentation can be divided into two main... [Pg.95]

Viewing things from the perspective of his physical theory of contact electricity, Volta was intrigued by the apparently endless power of the battery to keep the electric fluid in motion without the mechanical actions needed to operate the classical, friction, electrostatic machine, and the electrophorus. He called his batteiy alternately the artificial electric organ, in homage to the torpedo fish that had supplied the idea, and the electromotive apparatus, alluding to the perpetual motion (his words) of the electric fluid achieved by the machine. To explain that motion Volta relied, rather than on the concepts of energy available around 1800, on his own notion of electric tension. He occasionally defined tension as the effort each point of an electrified body makes to get rid of its electricity but above all he confidently and consistently measured it with the electrometer. [Pg.1206]

We shall extensively employ the notation of graph theory it provides a powerful and elegant formalism for the description of both the structure of the discrete lattices on which the CA live, and the complete dynamics (he. the global state transitions) induced by those structures. Graph theory also allows the correspondence between CA configurations and the words of a regular language to be made in a very natural fashion. [Pg.30]

This result helps us to understand the symbol pH, first defined by a Danish chemist, Sorenson. He used the p to stand for the Danish word poienz (power) and H to stand for hydrogen. After a change of sign, pH is the power of ten needed to express the hydrogen ion concentration in moles per liter. In acidic solutions, pH is less than 7 (pH < 7) and in basic solutions, pH is greater than 7 (pH > 7). Table 11-111 expresses the results of Table 11-11 in terms of pH. [Pg.190]

The Winds are the Angels of the Lord, strong in power, which effect the Word of God, and listen unto his voice, and his flaming Ministers which accomplish his pleasure. ... [Pg.132]

The overall ability of a power supply to attenuate disturbances at its input is expressed as its PSRR (power supply rejection ratio). In graphs, PSRR is usually plotted as a function of frequency. We will invariably find that the rejection ratio is very low at higher frequencies. One reason for this is that the Bode plot cannot really help because the open-loop gain is very small at these frequencies. The other reason is, even a tiny stray parasitic capacitance (e.g., across the power switch and inductor) presents such a low impedance to noise frequencies (whatever their origin) that almost all the noise present at the input migrates to the output unimpeded. In other words, the power stage attenuation (which we had earlier declared to be Vo/Rin) is also nonexistent for noise (and maybe even ripple) frequencies. The only noise attenuation comes from the LC filter (hopefully). [Pg.82]

A word of caution from the authors The peak height and peak area are not interchangeable quantities. Consider for example how the height-to-area relationship depends on the resolving power of the mass analyzer or the response time of the detector. [Pg.9]
