Wood continued programs

The rapid growth of the pulp and paper industry following World War II coupled with a renewed scientific interest in utilization of bark and wood residues led to investigative programs on bark and wood tannins. The leather industry was continuing to decline in importance, so other alternatives were needed. One of these was replacement of phenol in whole or in part in phenol-formaldehyde adhesive formulations. This work progressed to the point where commercial quantities of polyphenolic extractives were made and sold for adhesive application. Excessive capacity and low petrochemically derived phenol prices in the 1960 s led to the demise of this effort in the United States (2,5). 

His stint as Executive Head of the department ended when he resigned the post in 1969 and was appointed Jackson-Wood Professor of Chemistry. He held this endowed chair until 1978, when he became emeritus. As an emeritus professor, Johnson continued his research program in collaboration with post-doctoral students until the very end of his life and was particularly pleased and gratified that his research program continually earned the support of peer-reviewed funding agencies. 

Endurance training improves the physical capacity and body composition of elderly persons however this effect is lost after 1 yr, unless the program is continued (Morio 2000 Tsuji et al., 2000 Kasch et al., 1999 Woods et al., 1999). and its trainability... 

Texaco has supported the radio broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera for many years. The company has made donations to the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, the New York Botanical Garden, Louisiana Nature and Science Center, and The Nature Conservancy. It also supports an urban tree-planting program.186 It donated 3000 acres of cypress-tupelo swamp in Louisiana to the Nature Conservancy for a bird refuge in 1994.187 It has also donated 10,000 acres of land in Utah for a wildlife habitat in 1995.188 The company also refers to continued cost-inefficient government regulations in the same report.
