With two distinct regions

Examination of flame-retarding additives was done by Heeren et al. using a direct temperature controlled pyrolysis external ion source and a 7 T FTICR. Samples were taken from common household appliances such as TV set housings, computer casings, and others and were pulverized to powder form. Direct heating of the filament probe with dried sample produced spectra with two distinct regions, corresponding to evaporation of nonbonded additives and pyrolysis of the polymer matrix. The xmknown polymer blends were foxmd to contain brominated biphenyls, brominated diphenyl ethers, tetrabromoBisphenol-A and its butylated isomers, polystyrene, and antimony oxides. [Pg.419]

Variation of melt viscosity for both the preblends and preheated blends with the blend ratio are shown in Fig. 19. There are two distinct regions in viscosity change with the addition of polyacrylic rubber (ACM) in the blends. First, in the higher shear rate region, the viscosity increases with the addition of the ACM (up to 40% ACM) in the blend and then it decreases. In the lower... [Pg.617]

Consider a simple perceptron with N continuous-valued inputs and one binary (— 1) output value. In section 10.5.2 we saw how, in general, an A -dimensional input space is separated by an (N — l)-dimensional hyperplane into two distinct regions. All of the points lying on one side of the hyperplane yield the output -)-l all the points on the other side of the hyperplane yield -1. [Pg.550]

In the compound with water, continuous layers of water alternate with bilayers of host molecules, defining two distinct regions in the solid (Fig. 7). Within the bilayers, the structure is stabilized mainly by dipolar interactions between the C-Cl groups turning inward. All the oxygen-containing functions of the host point outward on both sides of the bilayer, and are linked efficiently to the adjacent hydration layers. [Pg.16]

The amount of ibuprofen adsorbed by MCM-41-IBU is about 34.7% w/w. The release profile shows two distinct regions the former between 0 and 8 hours, characterized by a very fast increase of drug concentration in SBF the latter, between 8 and 170 hours, where a slow released is observed, which seems to continue over 170 hours. A step is observed between 24 and 27 hours, as reported in literature for MCM-41 with Time (h) similar pore size [3,6,8] (figure 1). [Pg.250]

The value of S0 decreases with increasing elevation. Zao, the interface between air and the LNAPL phase, may or may not coincide with Zu, the upper boundary of the aquifer. Typically, the saturation of the LNAPL phase extends over two distinct regions (see Figure 5.10). These are (1) water and LNAPL phase zone, and (2) water, LNAPL phase, and air zone. When a single homogeneous stratum is considered, O can be assumed constant. In a stratified medium, however, saturation discontinuities generally exist due to the variation in soil characteristics, and the determination of LNAPL volume based on Equation 6.22 may become much more involved. [Pg.195]

The theory of Hoeve42) was formulated by incorporating the interactions between adsorbed chains into the above theory of Hoeve et al.41) The adsorbed layer is divided into two distinct regions the first layer of thickness 6 consists of segments in direct contact with the surface and the remaining layer consists of loops. The excess free energy AFj of interactions between the adsorbed segments in the first layer can be calculated from... [Pg.7]

Micelles are colloidal dispersions that form spontaneously, under certain concentrations, from amphiphilic or surface-active agents (surfactants), molecules of which consist of two distinct regions with opposite afL nities toward a given solvent such as water (Torchilin, 2007). Micelles form when the concentration of these amphiphiles is above the critical micelle concentration (CMC). They consist of an inner core of assembled hydrophobic segments and an outer hydrophilic shell serving as a stabilizing interface between the hydrophobic core and the external aqueous environment. Micelles solubilize molecules of poorly soluble nonpolar pharmaceuticals within the micelle core, while polar molecules could be adsorbed on the micelle surface, and substances with intermediate polarity distributed along surfactant molecules in intermediate positions. [Pg.119]

When dimethyldichlorosilane is mixed in various proportions with nonamethylcyclotrisilazane, [(CH3)2SiNCH3]3, redistribution of chlorine atoms with bridging methylimino groups on the dimethylsilicon moiety occurs. The proton NMR spectra of such equilibrated mixtures, shown in Fig. 5, display two distinct regions of peaks, one in the range of — 2.3 to — 2.7... [Pg.190]

An electronic R-matrix radius a is chosen such that exchange can be neglected for r > a. An upper limit qd for the intemuclear coordinate q is chosen so that a dissociating electronic state ,/ is bound for q > qd- This defines a vibronic hypercylinder [284] with two distinct surface regions an electronic wall with r = a for 0 < q < qd and a dissociation cap defined by the enclosed volume of... [Pg.169]
