The 1930s and 1940s saw a continued growth in the popularity of the blues as many blacks migrated north and the blues and jazz forms continued to develop, diversify, and influence each other. It was at this time that Son House, Willie Brown, and Robert Johnson played, while 0 V the next decade saw the emergence of the blues greats Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Johnny Lee Hooker.

This notion seems quite similar to Hooke s except that Willis appears to entertain the notion of a combination by the collision between the sulphureous particles of the combustibles and the nitrous particles of the air. It is interesting to note that Robert Hooke, Dr. Willis, and Robert Boyle were intimate friends and co-workers in Oxford and later in London, and were alike early members of the newly founded Royal Society. Thomas Birch, in his life of Boyle, for instance, referring to the air pump which Boyle made in 1558-1559 and which was perfected by Mr. Robert Hooke, says ...

I mentioned it before We cannot find them. I am reminded of the old saw about Willie Sutton, why he robbed banks—because that is where the money was. In this case, go where the people are. There was a time when, if you wanted to hire an African American scientist, you called up Dr. McBay. He knew where every African American scientist was, because he taught most of them. Many of his former students are or have been here.
