Welding receptacles

The comprehensive materials and work hours charts (Figs. 19.10 and 19.11) were developed from a theoretical model of a plant with one hundred 460 V motors of different sizes, half of them with interlocks, including allowance for lighting, welding receptacles, 110 V outlets, and grounding, directly proportional to the average hp/motor. The material costs and labor hours are based on the composite unit costs in Table 19.24. 

Assume one welding receptacle for every 5,000 ft. of process area with a minimum of one for each operating floor and utility area.

Microsample holders are made from four-hole alumina capillaries. Small receptacles for the crucibles containing reference and sample are welded to the two thermocouples of the DTA holder at the hot junction points (Fig. 13 a). 

All cable trays were installed throughout the penthouse as well as all welding plugs, receptacles and lighting. The penthouse was operational and ready for rope up and final permanent services connection after the new headframe was constructed. 

Tanks installed inside buildings can be of simple welded construction (Fig. 8). An important requirement is that the tank should have an inclined or a hoppershaped bottom, so that moisture and impurities will settle at the lowest point and can be drained off there. For this reason, too, the tanks should be mounted sufficiently high above floor to allow a drum or other receptacle to be placed under the outlet. 

Flushing consists of a throughput of water of sufficient pressure, velocity and duration to remove any dirt and debris which has accumulated during construction. Obviously this task is minimized if care has been taken to close pipe ends temporarily with plastic caps and to encourage welders and pipe fitters not to use an open end as a handy receptacle for a box of welding electrodes or a spanner, which can be easily forgotten.
