Weighing, counting

At some sites, a high-speed weigh-in-motion sensor embedded in the roadway weighs, counts, and measures the distance between axles, calculating total vehicle gross and axle weight. 

Precision bench scales are designed for use in industrial settings they typically have capacities below 50 kg and 30,000 or more displayed divisions. Typical apphcations are counting very small parts or weighing hand-add materials for proportioning operations. 

Fabric-Based Grades. Grade C is made from cotton fabric weighing over 140 g/m (4 oz/yd ). The maximum thread count in any ply is 28/cm (72/in.) in the fiU direction, and the maximum total thread count in the warp and fiU directions is 56/cm (140/in.). Heavier fabrics provide higher impact strength but rougher machined edges. Its use for electrical apphcations is not recommended. 

Soa.king. The hides are weighed and counted into production batches. For pre-fleshed and trimmed catde hides the batches are about 3—5 t when the processing is in dmms. If the tannery has hide processors the batches may be up to 10 t. Water is added to cover the hides and allow free movement of the load. The dmm is turned intermittently during the normal 8 to 16-hour soaking period. 

A baker counts biscuits in dozens—a convenient number. Money is counted in dollars— one hundred cents is, again, a convenient number. How did chemists choose to count in terms of moles—the number 6.02 X 10 seems an odd choice. Why, for instance, didn t they settle on some simpler number, such as exactly one billion particles There is a reason. Chemists prefer a definition in terms of a quantity that can be measured readily and with high accuracy. Weigh-... 

The potential usefulness of x-ray emission spectrography for trace analysis is implicit in the results of approximate calculations presented in Chapter 4. Thus, it was estimated that the intensity of cobalt Ka generated under practicable conditions in a monolayer (area, 1 sq cm) of cobalt atoms might give 133 counts per second (4.16). Chemists report numbers of atoms, ions, and molecules in terms of a unit called a mole. A mole is the analog of the wholesaler s dozen. A dozen could be defined as the number of soda cans in a twelve pack carton supplied by a wholesaler. Even if you could not open the carton to count the number of cans inside, you could find out how many cans are in a dozen by weighing the carton and dividing the mass of the carton by the mass of one can. A similar approach is used to define a mole (abbreviated mol) ... 

Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for routine use in children. The first dose should be given within 12 hours of birth. The second and third doses are given at 2 months and 6 months after the first dose if using the single component vaccine, or at 2, 4, and 6 months if using combination vaccines. If the infant weighs less than 2000 g at birth, the birth dose is not counted in the three-dose series. How can we count such a large number of items as Avogadro s number One way, which we also can use in everyday life, is to weigh a small number and the entire quantity. We can count the small number, and the ratio of the number of the small portion to the number of the entire quantity is equal to the ratio of their masses. 

Yam count or number defines the relationship between yam weight and length. On one system it is the number of times a standard length of the yam is contained in 1 lb weight, e.g., a 23s cotton yam is one of such a thickness that 23 hanks each 840 yards long weigh 1 lb. The effects of all combinations of aeration and nutrients are easily discernable on the right hand YES count column.
