Water stratospheric effects

Here, we focus our attention on the interplay that exists between solvation processes and ultrafast redox reaction in the vicinity of the strong oxidant hydroxyl radical (OH). This diatomic radical represents one of the most efficient oxidant of cellular components (proteins, lipids, DNA), contributes to Haber-Weiss reaction and plays some important role in fundamental radiation or stratospheric chemistry. Presently, we have investigated short-time water caging effect on transient electron delocalization-relocalization in the vicinity of nascent aqueous OH radicals. Toon and Tolbert (1995) suggest that if Type I PSCs are primarily ternary solutions rather than crystalline NAT, the higher vapor pressure of HN03 over the solution would in effect distill nitric acid from Type I to Type II PSCs, assisting in denitrification of the stratosphere. This overcomes the problem that if Type II PSCs have nitric acid only by virtue of the initial core onto which the water vapor condenses, the amount of HN03 they could remove may not be very large. That shown for 03 is based on the assumption that its concentration increased from 25 to 50 ppb over the Northern Flemi-sphere. Human activities harmfully influence the environment and nature in many ways. The production of undesirable wastewater, waste gas, and liquid plus solid residues seems to be inevitable during chemical processes. The public is more sensitive to pollution of the aquatic environment and the depletion of clean water resources, because they have an immediate impact on daily routine and recreational activities. However, air pollution has an adverse impact on our health in the short and long term, and the problems of the greenhouse effect and the destruction of stratospheric ozone could extinguish life from the face of the Earth. These problems are enhanced by overpopulation and urbanization. Today, urban areas can be seen as monsters that consume large amounts of energy, matter, and freshwater and release all kinds of waste into the environment. [Pg.1]

The model results obtained in this study suggest that future aircraft emissions will have a significant impact on levels of NOx, stratospheric water vapor, and ozone in both the troposphere and the stratosphere.
