The thermodynamics of this process are described in detail in references (67 —72, 80,81). Let us examine a typical methanol injection system. In a typical methanol injection and recovery system for a cold-oil absorption or turboexpander plant, feed gas passes through a free-water knockout drum and into a gas-gas exchanger with methanol being sprayed on exchanger tube-sheets. Methanol inhibits hydrate formation and aqueous methanol condenses in the exchanger (and the chiller following it) and is pumped to a primary separator. The methanol-water solution is then flashed in a flash drum and filtered into a methanol still to recover methanol. Normally, methanol dissolves in the hydrocarbon liquids and is distilled as a mixture of propane and methanol. Some of the methanol is recovered as the overhead product to recover the methanol dissolved in the heavier solution, the bottoms of the methanol still (propane product or hydrocarbon liquids from the demethanizer)... [Pg.353]

Since HtS dissolved in water is very corrosive to carbon 4 steel, a comprehensive corrosion-control program is being conducted. In the field, each well is treated once per month by displacing inhibitor down to the perfora-. tions with stock tank oil. Corrosion coupons in the flow-lines are inspected every 6 months Little corrosion has been detected in the field. In the plants, corrosion in-hibitor is added daily to the gas-sweetening solvent, the salt water system, and the stabilizer overhead. Inhibitor is -Jj also added to bulk chemicals as received. Numerous corrosion coupons and probes are installed in each facility and are pulled for inspection every 1 to 3 months Corrosion rates have been low (less than I mil/year) asY result of the inhibitor injection program. [Pg.72]

If we now inject additional ammonia into the container, a new set of equilibrium concentrations will eventually be established, with higher concentrations in each phase than were initially obtained. In this manner, we can eventually obtain the complete relationship between the equilibrium concentrations in both phases. If the ammonia is designated as substance A, the equilibrium mole fractions in the gas (yA) and liquid ( A) give rise to an equilibrium-distribution curve as shown in Figure 3.1. This curve results irrespective of the amounts of air and water that we start with, and is influenced only by the temperature and pressure of the system. It is important to note that at equilibrium the concentrations in the two phases are not equal instead, the chemical potential of the ammonia is the same in both phases. It is this equality of chemical potentials which causes the net transfer of ammonia to stop. The curve of Figure 3.1 does not, of course, show all the equilibrium concentrations existing within the system. For example, water will partially vaporize into the gas phase, the components of the air will also dissolve to a small extent into the liquid, and equilibrium concentrations for these substances will also be established. For the moment, we need not consider these equilibria, since they are of minor importance. [Pg.159]

Fission product noble gases entering the water-steam circuit in the event of a tube leak are completely volatilized and transported with the steam to the main condenser where they are extracted and released via the off-gas stack. This release is monitored by a continuously operating detector device located in the condenser off-gas line. Non-volatile fission and activation products which are transported over the leak to the water-steam circuit remain completely in the water phase of the steam generator by the action of the blowdown purification system their activity concentration is kept at a level which is controlled by the injection rate on the one hand and by the purification rate on the other. Because of the very low vapor pressures of these elements and their chemical compounds (dissolved ions or insoluble oxides/hydroxides), their transport to the steam under the prevailing conditions (270 °C, 7 MPa) is only possible by droplet entrainment. This means that partitioning between liquid and steam phases is proportional to the steam moisture content, which is usually well below 0.1%. [Pg.228]
