Fluidized-bed powdered activated carbon systems represent another important process. The use of activated carbon for the tertiary treatment of secondary sewage effluents has been used extensively. Powdered carbon is as effective as granular activated carbon for removing the organic impurities from the wastewater. [Pg.318]

PACT [Powdered activated carbon treatment] A wastewater treatment process which combines activated carbon treatment with biological treatment, providing a single-stage treatment of toxic liquid wastes. Developed by DuPont in the 1970s at its Chambers Works, Deepwater, NJ, and now licensed by U.S. Filter/Zimpro. More than 50 units were operating in 1990. [Pg.202]

Activated carbon adsorption is a well-established process for adsorption of organics in wastewater, water, and air streams. Granular activated carbon (GAG) packed in a filter bed or of powdered activated carbon (PAG) added to clarifiers or aeration basins is used for wastewater treatment. In the pesticide industry, GAG is much more widely used than PAG. Figure 10 shows the process flow diagram of a GAG system with two columns in series, which is common in the pesticide industry [11]. [Pg.526]

Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is used in water and wastewater treatment facilities to adsorb soluble organic materials and to aid in the clarification process. PAC is fed to a treatment system using chemical feed equipment similar to those used for other chemicals that are purchased in dry form. The spent carbon is removed with the sludge and can then be discarded or regenerated. Regeneration can be accomplished in a furnace or wet air oxidation system. There are seven types of physicochemical PAC process systems (21-24,36,37,45,46,52) ... [Pg.146]
