The environmental conditions in a waste water sludge treatment system are better controlled. It is probably for this reason that an overall 80 per cent increase of biogas productivity has been reached in a 2,500 m mesophilic digester upon inoculation with the hydrogen-producing microorganism. 

Release routes of 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine to the environment appear to be waste waters, sludges, and solid wastes where emissions are not properly controlled during the use of 3,3 -dichlorobenzidine or during its chemical transformation to pigments. The compound has been found in water and soil at hazardous waste sites, a result of the improper land disposal of solid wastes. 

Waste water sludges contained mean 2,3,7,8-TCDD concentrations of 101 ppt for kraft mills (maximum 1,390 ppt) and 13 ppt (maximum 58 ppt) for sulfite mills. Furthermore, for all kraft mills, about 38% of the 2,3,7,8-TCDD was partitioned to pulps, 33% to waste water sludges, and 29% to waste water effluents.
