Vomiting of clear fluids

Wu Zhu Yu is very pungent, bitter and hot, and enters the Liver, Spleen and Kidney meridians. It can warm the meridian, descend the Liver-Qi and treat ascending of the Liver-Qi due to excess cold in the Liver meridian. The indication is headache, particularly on the top of the head. In addition, Wu Zhu Yu can spread the Liver-Qi and can be used when the Liver-Qi attacks the Stomach, which manifests as cramping pain with a cold sensation in the Stomach and in the lateral sides of the lower abdomen, vomiting of clear fluid, and a wiry and slow pulse. This pattern can be found in disorders such as migraine, hypertension, peptic ulcer, chronic gastritis and dysmenorrhea. 

For vague upper abdominal pain which gets better with warmth or pressure and vomiting of clear fluids, add Fructus Evodiae Rutecarpae (Wu Zhu Yu), Fructus Citri Sacrodactylis (Fo Shou), and Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae (Dang Shen). 

For vomiting of clear fluids, add Rhizoma Atractylodis CangZhu) and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae Bai Zhu). 

Nausea and vomiting of clear water due to accumulation of cold and fluid in the Stomach add Ban Xia (Pinelliae rhizoma) with Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis rhizoma recens) to disperse the cold and fluid accumulation. In a severe case, Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae fructus) may be applied to warm the Stomach and reduce the cold in the Stomach. 

When the Heart-Yang is too weak in the Upper-Jiao, the cold water may move upward from the Lower- or Middle-Jiao and attack the Heart and the Lung thus shortness of breath, dizziness, vomiting or coughing out of clear, thin, cold fluid, and edema appear. 

Ingestion Give victim 1 percent of sodium thiosulfate solution (or plain water) immediately by mouth and induce vomiting repeat as needed until all vomit fluid is clear. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious victim give oxygen, and seek medical help immediately. 

Fluid replacement is indicated in the case of ingestion causing serious vomiting and diarrhea. For inhalation exposures, the patient should be moved to fresh air, and be provided with symptomatic and supportive treatment. Diethyldithiocarbamate is the chelating agent of choice. Disulfiram has been used to clear cases of nickel dermatitis. 

All patients with AP should receive supportive care, including effective pain control, fluid resuscitation, and nutritional support. However, initial treatment usually involves withholding foods or liquids in order to minimize exocrine stimulation of the pancreas. The use of nasogastric aspiration offers no clear advantage in patients with mild AP, but is beneficial in patients with profound pain, severe disease, paralytic ileus, and intractable vomiting. If swallowed, give a tablespoon of salt in a glass of warm water and repeat until vomit fluid is clear...
