To address these problems, Phoenix has manufactured bromonitromethane using continuous processing technology in a plant that was engineered to fit the chemistry. The bromination was carried out in low-volume static mixer tubes, allowing efficient heat transfer and accurate process control. 

Samples of sand spiked with 36 nitroaromatic compounds, 19 haloethers, and 42 organochlorine pesticides, and a standard reference soil (certified for 13 polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, dibenzofuran, and pentachlorophenol) were extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide in a two- or four-vessel supercritical fluid extractor to establish the efficiency of the extraction and the degree of agreement of the parallel extraction recoveries. Furthermore, the many variables that influence the extraction process (e.g., flowrate, pressure, temperature, moisture content, cell volume, sample size, extraction time, modifier type, modifier volume, static versus dynamic extraction, volume of solvent in the collection vessel, and the use of glass beads to fill the void volume) were investigated.

Phase equilibrium measurements with supercritical SC-CO2 as solvent were performed with a variable volume static cell, Riha 1996. Isotherms and partition coefficients were determined for 13 oils. Each oil represents a separation product.

This simplified equilibration process holds strictly for a cubic crystal in a general non-cubic case, the volume, static pressure and bulk modulus have to be replaced by the strain components (related to unit-cell parameters), stress components and elastic constants, respectively. The computer program PARAPOCS[17] performs the lattice-dynamical, thermodynamical and quasi-harmonic calculations in the general tensorial formalism, and has been used to obtain all results reported below for calcite and aragonite.
