Schnizler et al., 2003) permits the automation of both cRNA injection and two-electrode voltage clamp recordings from multiple oocytes in standard 96-well plates. Although the cost and maintenance of such an apparatus is likely to be restricted to industrial research environments, other automated oocyte perfusion systems have been described that would be suitable for smaller scale laboratories (e.g., Joshi et al., 2004).

The possible roles of the 5-HT, receptor in circadian phase shifts [62] has been hampered by the lack of selective compounds. However, based on the observation that 5-CT, DP AT and 5-HT, compounds with affinity for both 5-HT, and 5-HT7 receptor subtypes, can phase advance neuronal firing activity in hypothalamic slices in culture [63], and that a 5-HT, antagonist was unable to block this response [20], it remains a plausible hypothesis. Whole cell voltage clamp recordings from rat suprachiasmatic nuclei neurons [64] also support a role for the S-HT, receptor in circadian function. Proof of the role of 5-HT7 receptors in such processes awaits the development of subtype selective tools. 

Voltage clamp recordings in Xenopus oocytes expressing human a3 2 and a4p2 nAChR subtypes were obtained. 

Felbamate is effective in both the maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazol seizure models. Clinically relevant concentrations of felbamate inhibit N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-evoked responses and potentiate gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-evoked responses in wholecell, voltage-clamp recordings of cultured rat hippocampal neurons. This dual action on excitatory and inhibitory transmitter response may contribute to the wide spectrum of action of the drug in seizure models.
