We thank our institution, the Vienna University of Technology, for providing the facilities and time to write this book. Part of this book was written during a stay of Peter Filzmoser at the Belarusian State University in Minsk. We thank The Austrian Research Association for the mobility program MOEL and the Belarusian State University for their support, from the latter especially Vasily Strazhev, Vladimir Tikhonov, Pavel Mandrik, Yuriy Kharin, and Alexey Kharin. [Pg.11]

Vladimir M. Egorov was born in Odintsovo-10, Moscow Region, Russia, in 1982. He received his MS in chemistry from Moscow State University in 2005. The subject of his diploma thesis was to develop a method of analytical reagents immobilization on cellulose matrix by dissolution or reconstitution using ionic liquids. Currently, he is a postgraduate student at the MSU Chemistry Department. His research interests include (but not limited to) application and synthesis of novel ionic liquids and computational chemistry. He has been a prize-winner of numerous contests in chemistry, mathematics, and biology. [Pg.403]

Vasiliy Bakulev was bom in Ekaterinburg, Russia. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1979, under the guidance of Prof. Vladimir Mokrushin, on the synthesis of imidazole derivatives. Then he studied electrocyclic reactions of diazocompounds and azomethyneylides and, in 1990, defended the second thesis of Doctor of Science (similar to Habilitation Degree) at Moscow State University. He received a diploma of Professor in 1998. Jointly with Wim Dehaen, he published a book on the chemistry of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles in 2004. He is currently professor at the Organic Synthesis and Technology Department of the Urals State Technical University (Ekaterinburg, Russia). [Pg.484]

Tobin J. Marks (NAS) is the Charles E. and Emma H. Morrison Professor and Vladimir N. Iptieff Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University. Through landmark synthetic, mechanistic, and thermodynamic investigations, he and his students opened a new portion of the Periodic Table to organometallic chemistry. He has also made major advances in solid state, polymer, bioinorganic, and boron hydride chemistry and in photochemical isotope separation. He received his B.S. from the University of Maryland and his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. [Pg.130]
