Vitamins coffee

The body maintains an antioxidant network consisting of vitamins A, C, and E, antioxidant enzymes, and a group of related compounds called coenzyme Q, for which the general formula is shown below. The n represents the number of times that a particular group is repeated it can be 6, 8, or 10. Antioxidants are molecules that are easily oxidized, so they react readily with radicals before the radicals can react with other compounds in the body. Many common foods, such as green leafy vegetables, orange juice, and chocolate, contain antioxidants, as do coffee and tea. [Pg.198]

Several vitamins have been recognized in green coffee beans, as might be expected in a plant seed. A relatively high ascorbic acid content is associated with fine-grade coffee beans to be used as seeds.162 Vitamin E has already been mentioned as a component of coffee oil.114... [Pg.151]

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), free and combined, has a total concentration of 2.2 pg/g in green coffee.164... [Pg.152]

Vitamins that have been found in coffee are listed in Table 18. [Pg.152]

A small amount of manganese (1.5 to 5.0 milligrams) is required in the diets of humans for normal development of tendon, bones, and some enzymes, and it is thought to be necessary for the body to utilize vitamin Bl. Manganese is found in many foods, including peas, beans, bran, nuts, coffee, and tea. [Pg.100]

Substitutions The pure vitamin C powder, available from health food stores, can be used. Or you can use the tablet form and crush it to a powder with a mortar and pestle before adding. Do not weigh the tablets as insoluble starch binder adds weight. Just add up the vitamin C contents (i.e., a 500.Omg tablet = 0.5 grams of vitamin C, a 1000.Omg tablet = 1.0 gram). To remove the starch binder, filter the developer solution through a coffee filter (do not use the filter for coffee afterwards ). [Pg.171]

Pyrazines. In the thirties, the attention on pyrazines was focused on its industrial role in dyes, photographic emulsions and chemotherapy. Its importance in life processes was indicated in its derivative, vitamin B2 (riboflavin, 6,7-dimethyl-9-(l -D-ribityl isoalloxazine). Later,in the midsixties, it was identified in foods and its contributions to the unique flavor and aroma of raw and processed foods attracted the attention of flavor chemists Pyrazine derivatives contribute to the roasting, toasting, nutty, chocolaty, coffee, earthy, caramel, maple-like, bread-like, and bell pepper notes in foods. The reader is referred to the reviews on Krems and Spoerri (88) on the chemistry of pyrazines, and the review of pyrazines in foods by Maga and Sizer (89, 90) Table XVI summaries sensory description and threshold of selected pyrazines. [Pg.234]

Much of the pivotal research into spray-drying was done by Masters in the 1950s, and his handbook remains one of the most useful references for those working in the field. The process has enjoyed enormous success, and has been scaled up for the production of milk products, coffee, vitamins, drugs such as acetominophen, and directly compressible excipients such as lactose and microcrystalline cellulose. Additionally, spray-drying has been used to convert nanoparticle dispersions into solid dosage forms. ... [Pg.2575]

I Administration. Even under optimal conditions, all bisphosphonates are poorly absorbed (bioavailabihty = 1% to 5%). Bisphosphonates must be administered carefully to optimize the chnical benefit and minimize the risk of adverse G1 effects. Each oral tablet should be taken with at least 4 ounces of plain tap water (not coffee, juice, mineral water, or milk) at least 30 minutes before consuming any food or any other supplement or medication. The weekly oral solution needs to be taken with only 2 ounces of water. The patient should remain upright (either sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes after bisphosphonate administration. When calcium and vitamin D dietary consumption are insufficient, supplementation is needed to ensme the beneficial effects of bisphosphonates. [Pg.1658]
