If the seat of a condensed phase explosion and an associated crater can be located, this can be quite helpful. Measurement of crater dimensions can enable an approximate estimate of the amount of explosive involved, and also may focus questioning of witnesses or examination of video footage from security cameras. Crater size depends on the mass and nature of the explosive, the nature of the substrate, and the position of the explosive charge relative to the substrate surface. As a first approximation, the diameter of a crater in a uniform substrate varies as the cube root of the explosive mass for a charge on or above the surface. For charges buried just below the surface, the diameter of the crater is proportional to the mass of explosive raised to the power 7/24 this factor allows for the effect of backfilling of the crater by ejected material. Intuitively (and practically), the diameter of the crater in the surface also decreases with distance of the charge above or below the surface.

Foley recording is the production of sound effects that are inserted into videos after they are filmed to add realism and dramatic tension. Foley recording can be synchronized efficiently to video footage because the sound effects are produced in real time, not modified from stock recordings. In addition, sounds that do not exist in reality and so would not be catalogued in a prerecorded audio library must be created. 

Studies at small scale, based upon video footage suggest that the vertical speed with which the overtopping jet leaves the crest of the structure (m ) may be estimated as (Fig. 16.25) ... 

The information collected in situ was recorded in the checklist created for the purpose, which includes the points provided in the EWA Guide. The information was also gathered through direct observations, video footage, photographs and structured interviews to the worker. 

The early provision of airway and respiratory life support would have reduced the fatality rate considerably. Video footage from the incident shows casualties being loaded into buses without even a basic attempt at secure left lateral positioning and opening the airway (Fig. 10.2). 

Casualties presented or were carried to emergency reception points without any evidence of physical trauma and apparently suffering from severe respiratory distress or total failure. The video footage did not show clear signs of acute respiratory failure in many of the cases although this must be assumed to be the cause of death in the cases of exposure to sarin.
