Vanguard

It is great that AC CA-05 took place in 2005. This year Ukraine demonstrates Eurointegration policy and we are in the vanguard of this process. In 2004 Analytical Chemistry Council NAS of Ukraine becomes a member of European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences. AC CA-05 is the next step towards Eurointegration of Ukrainian analytical science. The first steps are always hard to make. We tried to do our best... TLC Analysis. Samples were examined by TLC using standard procedures. Rf values were determined and compared with those of authentic reference materials. Radioactive components were located by scanning (Vanguard Instrument Corp., North Haven, Conn., Model 885) or by autoradiography (Eastman Kodak, Rochester, N. Y., type AA film). The relative Rf value of DCDD on silica gel plates (Brinkmann Instruments, Inc., Westbury, N. Y., type For,4) when developed with n-hexane dioxane acetic acid, 90 10 4, V/V/V, was 0.90. The observed impurity had a relative Rf value of 0.40. On Brinkmann alumina plates, developed with n-hexane, DCDD had a relative Rf of 0.32. Neither system separated the chlorinated dibenzodioxin isomers.

In our previous paper (H), we introduced a novel experimental method to study the mechanistic details of solvent permeation into thin polymer films. This method incorporates a fluorescence quenching technique (19-20) and laser interferometry ( ). We took the time differences between these two techniques to estimate both the nascent and the steady-state transition layer thicknesses of PMMA film undergoing dissolution in 1 1 MEK-isoproanol solution. Since the science presented here would never materialize without productive interactions between theory and experiment, it is certainly appropriate to dedicate this book to the practitioners of experimental chemistry who do not hesitate to regard electronic structure calculations as an integral part of their investigations and to the vanguards of molecular quantum mechanics who do not shy away from visiting research laboratories where matter rather than its abstract representations is studied.
