Step 2. This process has 14 control degrees of freedom. They include fresh feed valve DIB column steam, cooling water, reflux, distillate, and bottoms valves purge column steam, cooling water, reflux, distillate, and bottoms valves furnace fuel valve flooded condenser cooling water valve and DIB column feed valve. 

Split—split in the range of 20/1 to 200/1. A good starting point is 50/1. Low split ratios give better sensitivity, but eventually lead to low resolution. For gas sample valves, purge and trap, and SFE interfaces increase split ratio until R. is maximized. Use a fast injection technique, preferably with an autosampler.

The repressurization step returns the adsorber to feed pressure and completes the steps of a PSA cycle. Pressurization is carried out with product and/or feed. Pressurizing with product is done countercurrent to adsorption so that purging of the product end continues indeed it may be merely a continuation of the purge step but with the bed exit valve closed. Pressurizing with feed cocurrent to adsorption in effect begins adsorption without producing any product.

Most refinery process units and equipment are manifolded into a collection unit, called the blowdown system. Blowdown systems provide for the safe handling and disposal of liquids and gases that are either automatically vented from the process units through pressure relief valves, or that are manually drawn from units. Recirculated process streams and cooling water streams are often manually purged to prevent the continued buildup of contaminants in the stream. Part or all of the contents of equipment can also be purged to the blowdown system prior to shutdown before normal or emergency shutdowns. 

Filtrates that generally do not require a sharp separation between the mother and wash filtrates. Some complex valves, however, enable atmospheric purging of the sectors and internal piping to facilitate a sharp separation of filtrates,... 

Compartments within the valve separate the various zones to ensure that the separation is sharp and no mixing of mother, strong, middle and weak filtrates occurs during the cycle. To speed up the evacuation of the various filtrates there are valves with two bridge circles, one for the main stream and the another that opens to atmosphere and purges the pan below the deck just before entering a new zone.

In the case of heavier-than-air purge gas, there is no buoyancy mechanism causing air entry into the stack, and there is thus no incentive to include a dry seal. Unlike a water seal, a dry seal cannot prevent a flashback from traveling upstream if a combustible mixture has been formed by the entry of air into the safety valve or flare headers. It only protects against internal burning flashback...
