Los Alamos is processing a wide variety of residues, including Pu-Be neutron sources, polystyrene-Pu02-U02 blocks, incinerator ash, Pu-U alloys and oxides, Pu-Zr alloys and oxides, Pu-Np alloys and oxides, Pu-Th alloys and oxides, etc. Processes have been developed for these scrap items (see Figure 2), but we need to know more about Pu-Np separations Pu-Th separations oxalate precipitations for both plus 3 and plus 4 valences valence stabilization dissolution methods for high-fired impure oxides in-line alpha monitors to measure extremely low concentrations of Pu and Am in HNO3 solutions and solubility of various mixtures of Pu02 and UO2 under a variety of conditions. 

The active space used for both systems in these calculations is sufficiently large to incorporate important core-core, core-valence, and valence-valence electron correlation, and hence should be capable of providing a reliable estimate of Wj- In addition to the P,T-odd interaction constant Wd, we also compute ground to excited state transition energies, the ionization potential, dipole moment (pe), ground state equilibrium bond length and vibrational frequency (ov) for the YbF and pe for the BaF molecule. 

Valence valence orbital excitation, so that the excited state has doubly-occupied orbitals (so-called ionic configurations). 

Core-level spectra are useful in studying mixed valence (valence instability or interconfigurational fluctuation) in rare-earth systems (e.g. SmS, Ce) which arises when Eexc = n (E -i + FJ 0 where( — , )istheenergydifferencebetweenthe4/ and 4T states and is the energy of the promoted electron. The time scale involved... 

The derivation of the pseudopotentials discussed above has been developed from equation (12), in which the effect of core projection operators on the valence-valence electron repulsion has been neglected. The error introduced by this approximation can be largely removed by adding to the core repulsion operators the repulsion from the difference in valence electron density in the reference atoms between the all-electron and valence-electron calculations 33... 

The semi-local pseudopotential24 used for the calculations of Table 3 was based on a parameterization for the neutral atom. Melius, Olafson, and Goddard also included in their paper some calculations based on the single valence electron ion Fe7+. As expected, this parameterization leads to far worse results, which differ on average from the all-electron results by 0.05 a.u., thus emphasizing the importance of the contribution of valence-valence interaction to the effective potential [equation (51)].
