Uveitis experimental autoimmune

EAU experimental autoimmune uveitis GAPDH glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate... [Pg.2]

In 1968 Wacker Lipton developed an excellent animal model of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) (Wacker and Lipton, 1968). The EAU model has been used for several decades in eliciting immune mechanisms, the identification of pathogenic epitopes of autoantigens in the eye in animals, and the evaluation of therapeutic shategies. [Pg.53]

Uveitis is a general term used to describe a group of syndromes that have, as a common feature, inflammation of the uveal tract. Experimental autoimmune uveoreti-nitis can be induced in many animals by a subretinal injection of bovine serum albumin or fibroblasts, although most studies have been done in rabbits. A number of nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory proteins are known which may be valuable for long-term therapy of uveitis if delivered from encapsulated cells. Some anti-inflammatory factors that are believed to be promising for the treatment of uveitis diseases are inhibitors of inflammatory cytokines, such as antibodies or soluble receptors. [Pg.118]

Peptide M, DTNLASSTII KEGIDKTV, an 18-peptide corresponding to a sequence region 303-320 of the retinal S-antigen. It produces experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU), similar to that produced by native S-antigen, in several vertebrates species including non-human primates [L. A. Donose et al.. Arch. Ophthalmol. 1987, 105, 838 S. Nityanand et al., J. Clin. Immunol. 1993, 13, 352]. [Pg.273]

Genetically predisposed animals or induced animal models may also be used to study and predict chemical-induced autoimmunity. In induced models, a susceptible animal strain is immunized with a mixture of an adjuvant and an autoantigen isolated from the target organ. Examples are adjuvant arthritis (AA), experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) and experimental uveitis in the Lewis strain rat. Examples of spontaneous models... [Pg.476]
