Use as stabilizers

Hydroxyhydroquinone and pyrogaHol can be used for lining reactors for vinyl chloride suspension polymerization to prevent formation of polymer deposits on the reactor walls (98). Hydroxyhydroquinone and certain of its derivatives are useful as auxiUary developers for silver haUde emulsions in photographic material their action is based on the dye diffusion-transfer process. The transferred picture has good contrast and stain-free highlights (99). 5-Acylhydroxyhydroquinones are useful as stabilizer components for poly(alkylene oxide)s (100). [Pg.381]

In addition to its industrial importance as an intermediate in the synthesis of vitamin K, menadione, or more specifically, salts of its bisulfite adduct, are important commodities in the feed industry and are used as stabilized forms in this appHcation. Commercially significant forms are menadione dimethyl pyrimidinol (MPB) (10) and menadione sodium bisulfite (MSB) (11). MSB is sold primarily as its sodium bisulfite complex. The influence of feed processing, ie, pelleting, on the stabiUty of these forms has been investigated (68). The biological availabiUties and stabiUty of these commercial sources has been deterrnined (69,70). [Pg.155]

Benzyl chloride undergoes self-condensation relatively easily at high temperatures or in the presence of trace metallic impurities. The risk of decomposition during distillation is reduced by the use of various additives including lactams (43) and amines (44,45). Lime, sodium carbonate, and triethylamine are used as stabilizers during storage and shipment. Other soluble organic compounds that are reported to function as stabilizers in low concentration include DMF (46), arylamines (47), and triphenylphosphine (48). [Pg.60]

Antioxidants. Antioxidants are rarely needed because of the highly saturated nature of the polymer chains. If protection against severe environmental ageing conditions is needed, typical antioxidants (Ethanox 702, Irganox 1010) can be added. In some cases, zinc dibutyldithiocarbamate (0.05-0.2 wt%) or butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) can be used as stabilizers. [Pg.652]

The mono- and disubstituted organotins considered here are used as stabilizers in PVC or as catalysts for the production of electrodeposited coatings (mainly in motor vehicle primers), sihcone rubbers, esterification and powder coatings, and polyurethanes, as well as for coating glass. [Pg.4]

Similarly, while the main products used as stabilizers in PVC are mono- and disubstituted compounds, owing to the chemistry involved in their production, trisubstituted organotin compounds will comprise a small fraction of the total amount. This could be significant in assessing the toxicity of the compounds (see below). [Pg.9]

For the octyltin compounds, the only source of these substances relates to their use as stabilizer compounds in PVC products (including other relevant life cycle stages such as production). Thus, it can be safely assumed that measured levels in the environment relate to this application. [Pg.14]

Methyltin compounds, in addition to being used as stabilizers in PVC products, can also be produced via natural processes in the environment. Thus, as with butyltin compounds, it is not possible to exactly attribute the source of methyltin compounds in the environment. [Pg.14]

The syntheses described in the preceding section can be performed using as stabilizers the classical ligands of organometalhc chemistry (e.g., amines, thiols, or phosphines) instead of polymers. The amount of ligand added allows control of the particle growth and therefore the size. [Pg.243]

When protective colloids are used as stabilizing agents, the following properties contributed by these stabilizing materials should be considered ... [Pg.86]

In 1994, thiols were firstly used as stabilizers of gold nanoparticles [6a]. Thiols form monolayer on gold surface [18] and highly stable nanoparticles could be obtained. Purification of nanoparticles can be carried out, which makes chemical method of metal nanoparticles a real process for nanomaterial preparation. Various thiol derivatives have been used to functionalize metal nanoparticles [6b, 19]. Cationic and anionic thiol compounds were used to obtain hydrosols of metal nanoparticles. Quaternary ammonium-thiol compounds make the nanoparticle surface highly positively charged [20]. In such cases, cationic nanoparticles were densely adsorbed onto oppositely charged surfaces. DNA or other biomolecule-attached gold nanoparticles have been proposed for biosensors [21]. [Pg.454]

Among the various branches in colloid and interface science, polymer adsorption and its effect on the colloid stability is one of the most crucial problems. Polymer molecules are increasingly used as stabilizers in many industrial preparations, where stability is needed at a high dispersed phase volume fraction, at a high electrolyte concentration, as well as under extreme temperature and flow velocity conditions. [Pg.131]

Bioassays can be used to assess the effect of molecular heterogeneity due to glycosylation, whereas ELISA cannot. The sensitivity of the bioassay and ELISA are often comparable. Both methods can be used as stability-indicating test methods. [Pg.302]

Various amino acids are also used as stabilizing agents for some biopharmaceutical products (Table 3.24). Glycine is most often employed and it (as well as other amino acids) has been found to help stabilize various interferon preparations, as well as erythropoietin, factor VIII,... [Pg.151]

Emulsifiers and Stabilizers Both anionic (INDULIN C) and cationic (INDULIN W-l) derivatives of non-sulfonated kraft lignin are commonly used as stabilizers for making asphalt, wax, or oil-in-water emulsions. [Pg.527]

Readily absorbs nitrogen oxides which result from the decomposition of NC and NG but too strong a base to be used as stabilizer. Initially tried and discarded. [Pg.278]

Although thiol ligands are the most widely used as stabilizers in the synthesis of Au NPs, other organic ligands bearing amine, phosphine, phosphine oxide, carboxylate or other functional groups have been employed alone or in mixtures. [Pg.146]
