Fig. 1.3. (Opposite) COI genes of strongylid and other nematodes. Aligned COI sequences (from Sukhdeo etal., 1997 (where each is designated by the GenBank accession number), except for Ascaris suum ASCOI and C. elegans CECOI which are from Okimoto et al. (1992), O. volvulus COI which is from Keddie etal. (1998) and B. malayiCO sequence which is unpublished data of the author) were analysed using maximum parsimony and neighbour joining. Fig. 1.3. This experimental setup was applied for characterization of the interaction between WGA as a targeter and isolated Caco-2 cells, as well as monolayers. Accordingly, all the carbohydrate-combining sites accessible at the cell membrane were occupied within 10 min. This step was followed by internalization of 80% of membrane-bound lectin after 90 min in the case of isolated cells, and 240 min in the case of monolayers [25], The principle of this assay design also works for characterization of the interaction between targeted nanoparticles and monolayers (unpublished data). [Pg.650]

As an inhibitor of plasma (pseudo) cholinesterase, DFP produced only minimal reversal of scopolamine-induced incapacitation. Note the very low plasma ChE levels, with only minor decreases in RBC ChE (Fig. 71). DFP does improve near vision when applied to the eye (David Flarper, unpublished data) suggesting that paralysis of the muscles of visual accommodation is probably peripheral in origin. Persistence of pupillary enlargement (in the face of systemic treatment with physostigmine) may be due to physiological or pK factors, causing limited access to the iris. [Pg.319]

Wool and Cole (6) described a simulation model based on percolation theory for predicting accessibility of starch in LDPE to microbial attack and acid hydrolysis. This model predicted a percolation threshold at 30% (v/v) starch irrespective of component geometry, but the predicted values are not in accordance with results of enzymatic or microbial attack on these materials (Cole, M.A., unpublished data). Since a model that incorporates component geometry provides a better fit to experimental data than a geometry-independent model does, development of advanced models should be based on material geometry and composition, rather than on composition alone. [Pg.77]

References and access to unpublished data were provided by E. Cruz-Rivera, N. Lindquist, E. Sotka, and S. Woodin. Comments from S. Bullard, C. Kicklighter, E. Cruz-Rivera, E. Sotka, and an anonymous reviewer improved earlier drafts of the manuscript. [Pg.184]

I thank Heather Baker, Catherine Day, Rob Evans, Peter Lindley, Clyde Smith, John Tweedie, and Harmon Zuccola for access to their unpublished data Clyde Smith for help with illustrations and Heather Baker and Andrew Brodie for their critical reading of the manuscript. I owe a particular debt to Peter Lindley, Rob Evans, and members of the Birkbeck College transferrin group for the free and rewarding collaborative interactions we have always had and to Phil Aisen for being a constant source of inspiration to all in the transferrin field. [Pg.456]

Fellow of the Rockefeller Foundation at The Ohio State Universit, 1953-54. The authors wish to thank Professor M. L. Wolfrom for access to much unpublished data on heparin during the preparation of this Chapter, and for valuable criticism and advice. [Pg.335]

But what of unpublished data When would searching for unpublished data be in order What kinds of unpublished literature might contribute to our work in chemistry How can we know that unpublished data exist on a specific subject, how can we trace them, and what determines their accessibility ... [Pg.111]

All readily accessible literature has been examined, including references which have appeared up to, and including, Volume 97 of Chemical Abstracts (December 1982), and some unpublished data (mainly from the author s laboratory) have been included. Because of the subjectivity inherent in choosing material for inclusion in this survey, it is possible that some important contributions have been unintentionally overlooked, for which the author expresses his sincere apologies. [Pg.5]

Lacking more detailed data on the ratio of total world sales for specific NCEs over their product life cycle, OTA assumed that the ratio is 2 to 1. OTA has reason to believe that this ratio is on the low side, based on informal discussions with researchers who have access to unpublished data. [Pg.90]

Human fibrinogen containing fibronectin and von Willebrand factor, purified human fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor a2-macroglobulin, and fibronectin used for preadsorption to the surfaces in this study were chosen primarily because of their increased accessibility over the canine analogs. Fibronectin is very similar in structure in all mammalian species tested so far, and all types of fibronectin have similar effects on cultured cells and cross-react with antibodies elicited in rabbits to one species of fibronectin. Thus, the use of human fibronectin is probably justified. Recent unpublished data of W. J. Dodds and G. S. Johnson suggest that washed canine platelets will not respond to human factor VIII concentrates in the ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation test. From these results, the conclusions for the von Willebrand... [Pg.344]

The observations from these studio paint out the tmportamx of volume in pares having about the size as SOC molecules, and the ability of some DOM molecules to iraetfere with the access of SOC to that pare size region. Several studies that tested DOM adsorption from various natural waters with activated carbon fibers indicated that DOM molecules are too huge to enter in pores <1 nm [43,44,109]. Some unpublished data obtained in the author s laboratory finther confirmed that this observation is valid at lower pH values (i.e, 5,5) wliich poomote DOM adsorption and for DOMs both in natural waters and after conventional treatment processes. Thereibre, it appears that ... [Pg.365]

Parts of this work were funded by the UK Environment Agency, the Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (Japan), and the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate (SKi) who are thanked sincerely for their support. We would also like to thank J. Smellie (Conterra AB) and M. Laaksohaiju (Intera AB) for giving us access to unpublished data. Constructive comments from reviewers G. Darling, M. Gascoyne and R. Metcalfe improved the content and readability of the manuscript. [Pg.43]

The main reason for the recent interest in SPHs is the topicality of carbohydrate mimetics, the attempt to mimic the biological function of carbohydrates. The advantage of SPHs would be the access in a synthetically facilitated fashion, and stability towards glycosidases would be expected. The oligomers 57 (Scheme 8) and 75 (Scheme 11) were sulfated to be investigated as heparinoid mimetics (unpublished data). A sulfated derivative of 61 (Scheme 9) fully blocked syncytium formation caused by HIV infection to CD4 cells at 50 pM concentration [53], and the persul-fated derivative of tetramer 62 (Scheme 9) had micromolar activity in the protection of MT2 cells from HIV infection [54]. [Pg.579]

The two major databases containing information obtained from X-ray structure analysis of small molecules are the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) [25] and the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) [26] both are available as in-house versions. CSD provides access to organic and organometallic structures (mainly X-ray structures, with some structures from neutron diffraction), data which are mostly unpublished. The ICSD contains inorganic structures. [Pg.258]
