It also happens that new researchers are being attracted to the field of polyhex enumerations. E. C. Kirby (Resource Use Institute, Pitlochry, Scotland, UK) may be reckoned as one of them, although his latest contributions [141,143] were preceded by some other enumeration-oriented works [85,153]. His latest work [141] makes a significant contribution to our understanding of all-benzenoids. Another name, which has recently entered the arena, is William C. Herndon (University of Texas at El Paso, Texas, USA). His enumerations [138], based on a computerized coding system for polyhexes [154], is particularly chemistry-oriented inasmuch as it takes stereoisomerism into account.

Pat Mora is an award-winning contemporary poet, essayist, and writer of children s books, who began her career as an administrator and museum director at the University of Texas at El Paso. Her many books include Borders (1993), House of Houses (1997), This Big Sky (1999), and The Night the Moon Fell A Maya Myth (2000). This essay, one of her many commentaries on Hispanic culture, was originally published in The Christian Science Monitor in 1990. 

In the early 2000s, however, some scientists suggested that some types of microscopic life may, indeed, he able to survive in the Venusian atmosphere. Some of the strongest proponents of a Venusian microbe theory have been Dirk Shulze-Makuch and Louis Irwin at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The UTEP researchers have pointed to the presence of both hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in proximity to each other in the planet s upper atmosphere as evidence for the existence of microorganisms in the Venusian atmosphere. Normally, those two gases tend to react with and destroy each other. About the only condition under which they remain in equilibrium on Earth is when both are being produced by anaerobic bacteria.
