Dr. Gordon Rewcastle of the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and your Editor have covered the chemistry of sp -carbanions as generated in the vicinity of heterocyclic nitrogen atoms, a field that has expanded immensely in the last several years. [Pg.438]

Gordon Rewcastle obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Auckland in 1978, and after post-doctoral study in the U.S., he joined the Auckland Cancer Society s Research Laboratory as a medicinal chemist in 1980. Since then has participated in a number of antibacterial and anticancer drug development projects, and is the author or co-author of over 100 scientific papers and patents in the anticancer area. In all, he has made significant contributions to the development of six of the eight anticancer drugs to have gone to clinical trial from the Auckland Cancer Centre. [Pg.272]

In an initial survey at the University of Auckland in 2004 on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec wines, subject to MOX in 2000-L tanks at 4-8 mg/L/month for 12 weeks post-MLF, no changes were seen in the aroma profiles of the wines (vs. controls) for a wide range of aroma compounds, including herbaceous methoxypyrazines and C6 alcohols, floral terpenes and (3-ionone, or for fruity esters and higher alcohols (Rowdon, 2005). Likewise, the concentrations of the varietal thiol 3MH,... [Pg.172]

The impact of MOX upon reductive aromas is being exanained in a further research project at the University of Auckland, using SPME GC-MS (Nguyen et ah, 2010). The wines subject to MOX, or stored in an 02-permeable Flextank, recorded lower concentrations of compoimds such as methanethiol (aroma of cooked cabbage, with a perception threshold of 0.3 pg/L Mestres et al., 2000), and 3-(methylthio)-l-propanol... [Pg.176]

J. M. Herbert carried out his PhD research with associate professor P.D. Woodgate and Dr. W.A. Denny at the University of Auckland, into the synthesis and reactions of perimidine derivatives. He then carried out postdoctoral research with Dr. R.J.K. Taylor at the University of East Anglia on the reactions of pyrylium salts, before moving into Industry. He is presently a team leader in the Isotope Chemistry and Metabolite Synthesis Department of sanofi-aventis in Alnwick, UK. [Pg.1092]
