Combmtor inspection or overhaul. This is based on equivalent engine hours, whieh are based on the number of starts, fuel, and temperature. Figure 19-20 shows the effeet of these parameters on the life of the unit. Note the strong effeet that fuel and number of starts has on the life. [Pg.684]

Frensch and Vdgtle have recently appended three crown ether units to the cyclo-triveratrylene unit . Note that Hyatt had previously prepared the open-chained relatives of this structure (see Sect. 7.3 and Eq. 7.6). Whereas Hyatt prepared the cyclo-triveratrylene skeleton and then appended polyethyleneoxy arms to it, Frensch and Vogtle conducted the condensation reaction (formaldehyde/HCl) on the preformed benzocrown. Thus benzo-15-crown-5 was converted into the corresponding tris-crown (IS) (mp 203.5—205.5°) in 4% yield. The yield was somewhat higher for the condensation of benzo-18-crown-6, but in both cases, yield ranges were observed. These species formed 1 3 (ligand/salt) complexes with sodium and potassium ions. [Pg.37]

Eigures 10-lA-G and Table 10-1 from the Standards of Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association give the nomenclature of the basic types of units. Note the nomenclature type designation code letters immediately below each illustration. These codes are assembled from Table 10-1 and Eigures 10-lA-G. [Pg.3]

The symbol m is often read molar it is not an SI unit. Note that 1 mol-L 1 is the same as 1 mmol-ml 1. Chemists working with very low concentrations of solutes also report molar concentrations as millimoles per liter (mmol-L-1) and micromoles per liter (pmol-I 1). [Pg.79]

Derived units are combinations of the base units (Sec- with a lowercase letter but their abbreviations are upper-tion A). Table 4 lists some derived units. Note that the case, names of units derived from the names of people all begin... [Pg.909]

A similar analysis is carried out for the start-times of the seeond unit. Note that during the solution of the subgoal, it is possible that the constraint involving the end-time of the previous unit will be tried. This will fail since the end-time is not an input-intersituational variable. This process is repeated for each subsequent start-time, and in each case the subgoal is resolved the same way. [Pg.322]

Deactivation of a homogeneous catalyst by dimerization can usefully be prevented by supporting the monomeric unit [note also that most multicenter catalysts require dissociation to an active monomeric form (/, p. 405 also Section VI)]. This concept has been used to maintain the hydrogenating activity of titanocene intermediates, which normally dimerize to inactive fulvalene complexes (334-336). Similarly maintained... [Pg.363]

The receptor 2 induces a pK shift of 2.9 for the diketone shown, whereas receptor 1 induces a pK shift of only 1 pK unit. Note that different diketones have to be used to ensure maximum complementarity with the receptor [90]. Scheme 4.10 Oxyanion hole receptors developed by the Anslyn group. If the masses (in c) are expressed in g and kg, respectively, in the last two situations, then the units of the ordinate reduce to cm2 s 2 and m2 s"2, respectively, which do not bear much resemblance to molecular weight units. Note, however, that the acceleration of gravity in appropriate units can be factored out of these latter quantities to leave units of cm and m, respectively, for reduced osmotic pressure. ... [Pg.118]

The following problems illustrate conversions of units. Note that in all such computations it is important to include the dimensions of numbers, just as stressed in Chapter 3, and that the use of these dimensions helps to avoid errors. [Pg.35]

A. Potassium Phthalimide.—In a 2-1. round-bottom flask fitted with a reflux condenser are placed 80 g. (0.54 mole) of phthalimide (Note 1) and 1600 cc. of absolute alcohol. (Org. Syn. 5, 56.) The mixture is gently boiled for about fifteen minutes or until no more of the phthalimide dissolves (Note 2). The hot solution is decanted from any solid into a specially prepared solution of 30.5 g. (0.54 mole) of potassium hydroxide (Note 3). A precipitate of potassium phthalimide separates at once. The mixture is stirred and cooled quickly to room temperature, and the precipitate is filtered with suction. To the alcoholic mother liquors a second 80-g. portion of phthalimide is added, and the entire process is repeated. The two crops of crystals are united (Note 4) and washed with 200 cc. of acetone... [Pg.8]

Pure water has a pH of 7.00. The rise caused by the addition of the base is 10.70 — 7.00, or 3.70 pH units. Note that this rise is quite large when compared to the rise due to addition to the buffer solution. Recall that the buffer is capable of absorbing hydrogen and/or hydroxide ions with little change pure water cannot do that. [Pg.301]
