Detectors ultrasonic

Two types of ultrasonic systems are available that can be used for predictive maintenance structural and airborne. Both provide fast, accurate diagnosis of abnormal operation and leaks. Airborne ultrasonic detectors can be used in either a scanning or contact mode. As scanners, they are most often used to detect gas pressure leaks. Because these instruments are sensitive only to ultrasound, they are not limited to specific gases as are most other gas leak detectors. In addition, they are often used to locate various forms of vacuum leaks. [Pg.804]

Ultrasonic detectors Emit high-frequency sound waves, and sense movement in a protected area by sensing changes in these waves. The sensor emits sound waves that stabilize and set a baseline condition in the area to be protected. Any subsequent movement within the protected area by a would-be intruder will cause a change in these waves, thus creating an alarm condition. [Pg.170]

Other methods of leak detection include using soap fluid with a little water in it, ultrasonic detectors, stethoscopes, feathers and electronic gas leak detectors. The reality of leak detection is that each method has its place, but each method is limited to certain leak characteristics. If one type of sensor does not show a leak, another may find it. [Pg.55]

This is very helpful if you have a lot of fittings in a small area, and can t tell exactly which one is leaking by ear alone. There are different types of ultrasonic detectors available in the market place. I suggest using a bat detector. [Pg.55]

The ultrasonic detector can only be used for GC separations. The eluent is excited to oscillations of 4-6 MHz in a small cell of 10-40 pL volume using an oscillator crystal. The phase displacement between the oscillator and the receiver (a phase meter) is influenced by the composition of the eluent and proportional to the molar fraction (carrier gas and eluted compound). The response factor is influenced by the differences of the specific heat ratio, Cp /Cv, between carrier gas and eluent. The main drawback of this detector is its high sensitivity to pressure and temperature changes so that a temperature stability of 0.001 °C is required. [Pg.142]

Fluid and gas systems and other working machinery have constant ultrasound patterns. Changes in the sonic signatures can be recognized as wear in components. An ultrasonic detector senses such subtle shifts in the signature of a component and pinpoints potential sources of failure before they can cause costly damage. [Pg.1615]

The ultrasonic detector is a universal detector, with a broad dynamic range, good sensitivity, and a wide choice of carrier gases. Illustrated in Figure 6.29, this detector propagates sound waves at one transducer and receives them at another. [Pg.333]

Some producers and customers apply ultrasonic devices, sometimes with good results. However, there has been information that these ultrasonic detectors do not give a 100 % guarantee of revealing internal defects. [Pg.111]

Leaks often make a high-pitched sound (greater than 25 kHz). Supplementary ultrasonic detection is often used as a backup to other methods. Ultrasonic detectors should possess the following features (depending on the manufacturer s recommendations). [Pg.253]

Ultrasonic detectors should be calibrated according to an ultrasonic noise survey of the area in which they are installed, in accordance with vendor recommendations. [Pg.254]

Supplemental ultrasonic detectors should be considered around high leak potential equipment located within the unit. [Pg.254]

An important feature of ultrasonic detectors is that they are not affected by the wind. [Pg.254]
