Structural characteristics. Both natural and synthetic mordenite have an orthorhombic structure that consists of parallel, 12-membered ring channels in the c-direction, having an eliptical cross-section with dimensions of 6,7 x 7.0 A (Figure 9). Smaller 8-membered ring channels with dimensions of 2.9 x 5.7 A, which are perpendicular to the main channels, are too small to allow the movement of molecules from one main channel to another. Mordenite has been synthesized in a "large -port" and "small-port" form that have different sorption properties. A typical unit cell content is Na0[(A10o)o(Si0o)/rJ. 24 HO. 8 28 2 40... [Pg.187]

The typical unit cell content of zeolite L is (K,Na)gAi9Si27072.nH20 and its Si/AI ratio varies in the range of 2.6 - 3.5 [1-4]. Takaishi recently determined the distribution of Al atoms in the framework of zeolite L ly analyzing Si-MAS-NMR spectra. He thereby deduced five kinds of extra-framework cation sites as shown in Fig. 1., and estimated the relative strengths of their cation affinities [5]. [Pg.141]

The isolation procedure starts with the preparation of a cell extract in which the enzyme activity can be detected. This typically involves grinding the tissue in an extraction buffer so that the cell contents, including the proteins, become accessible. Protease inhibitors, such as phenylmethyl... [Pg.64]

ISEs are selective but not exclusive, so they may respond to other chemically similar ions and careful control of the cell contents is usually required. MIPs provide a means for selectivity enhancement and it is likely that electrodes made using imprinted polymers may more closely approach the exclusivity desired in such a device. A calibration plot for a typical imprinted polymer ISE is given in Fig. 19.2. [Pg.447]

Zeolite L.—Composition and Structure. Zeolite L was first synthesized by Breck. A typical unit cell content is K9(A102)9(Si02)2 22H2O and Si02/ AI2O3 ratios from 5.2-> 7 can be obtained. The space group is P6mmm with... [Pg.197]

In contrast to apoptosis, cells that die in response to tissue damage exhibit very different morphological changes, referred to as necrosis. Typically, cells that undergo this process swell and burst, releasing their intracellular contents, which can damage surrounding cells and frequently cause Inflammation. [Pg.924]

A problem arises if the synthetic zeolite contains tetrahedral atoms other than A1 and Si—e.g., P, Ga, Ge. We use the symbol as a prefix, as P-L, to indicate zeolite L which contains substantial P substitution in the framework in this case, typical unit cell contents are K21 [ (A102) 34 (Si02) 25 (P02) 13] 42H20. [Pg.17]
