Drug carrier delivery systems employ biologically inert macromolecules to direct a drug to its target site in the body. These are divided into two types particulate and soluble... [Pg.345]

Today, emissions, including particulate matter, are regulated in many countries and specified separately for the various emission parameters and vehicle and fuel types. Particulate mass emissions are measured by gravimetric methods over engine or vehicle test cycles, which consist of a sequence of speed and load... [Pg.607]

Fillers may be divided into particulate and fibrous types. Particulates include calcium carbonate, china clay, talc and barium sulphate. Fillers affect shrinkage on moulding and the dimensional stability of the finished plastic, increase tensile strength and hardness, enhance electrical insulation properties and reduce tackiness. They also impart opacity and colour (Figure 3.16). Carbon black is now the most widely used filler for polymers usually in the form of furnace carbon black, which has a particle diameter of 0.08 mm. Fibrous fillers reinforce polymers and greatly increase their tensile strengths. They include fibres of glass, textile and carbon. Plastics filled with fibrous fillers are known as composites. [Pg.62]

Contaminants may be of three general types particulates, highly polar (ionic) residues, and nonpolar (grease-Uke) residues. In many production environments, all three types are present and several solvents and cleaning processes may be required to remove them. Both the choice of solvent or cleaning solution and the cleaning process are critical, and several theoretical principles may be followed in their selection. Ultimately, cleaning is more an art than a science, and the procedure chosen should be experimentally verified in each case. Qualitative and quantitative tests can be performed to determine the efficiency of a selected solvent and process. [Pg.145]

ProUposome technologies have been introduced as a potentially applicable resolution to the stability problems of liposomes. Proliposomes are phospholipid preparations that generate liposomes by addition of aqueous phase and shaking. Proliposomes can be classified into two types particulate-based proliposomes [48] and solvent-based proliposomes [49],... [Pg.408]
