Using (5.14) and the determined value of aabs, we can estimate 8 if ab is known, and vice versa. Two examples of thermal bistability data, fit to a calculated tuning curve based on (5.12), are shown below. Figure 5.7 is for the bare sphere, and Fig. 5.8 is for the PDDA-coated sphere. In the figures, the laser scans slowly across a TM-polarized WGM dip (taking several thermal relaxation times to scan Av), first down in frequency, then reversing at the vertical dashed line, and scanning back up in frequency across the same mode. The continuous smooth lines are the theoretical fits. [Pg.116]

The theoretical tuning curve based on the KTP material refractive index data (Emanueli and Arie 2003), the measured values, and the corresponding Raman shifts as a function of temperature are shown in Figure 5.2a. At the maximum set crystal... [Pg.105]

The organ of Corti forms a highly-tuned resonant system. A set of neural tuning curves for the cat cochlea [Kiang, 1980] is presented in Fig. 6.4. [Pg.136]

An example of what can happen to the tuning curves in a damaged ear is shown in Fig. 6.5[Liberman and Dodds, 1984], The stereocilia (protruding hairs) of outer and inner hair cells were damaged mechanically in this experiment the tuning curve for an... [Pg.421]

The GMC control response can be designed via the tuning parameters K and K2 based on the tuning curve given by [24], It should be noted that the GMC approach is a special case of the global input output linearizing control technique in which a transformed control action is chosen properly with the external PI controller. The use of Eq. (16) forces y toward its set point, ysp, with zero offset. If Eq. (15) is differentiated, and the Eq. (16) is substituted into the resulting equation, the GMC control law is... [Pg.107]

To investigate the heat production on anti-Stokes excitation the setup shown in Figure 7 was used. The sample was prepared as described in Section V. It was excited by a Kr-ion pumped dye laser in the region 560 to 600 nm. The excitation power in these experiments varied with wavelength according to the tuning curve of the dye laser (Table 2). [Pg.22]

Fiber responses are also characterized with tuning curves, a plot of thresholds for stimulus intensity vs. frequency. Tuning curves for auditory nerve fibers have a minimum intensity (maximum sensitivity) at a characteristic frequency (CF). [Pg.80]

Typical values, in the case of the ihodamine 6G cw singlefrequency ring laser at the peak of the tuning curve and 6 W of input power, for the last three efficiency factors are T]s = 0.85, t]a = 0.80, and jjf = 0.80, giving a theoretical slope efficiency of 44%. Experimental values for this case reach 35%. [Pg.78]
