Troubleshooting performance projection

The shape factors range from 0 to 1 and approach 1 for shallow channels that is, H/W fti 0. It Is Important to Include the shape factors when evaluating commercial screw channels. This becomes extremely Important for deep channels where H/W does not approach 0. The total mass flow rate, 0, Is calculated by combining the flow components as provided In Eq. 1.29 for the total mass flow rate. As stated previously, the rate, rotational flow, and pressure flow calculations should be performed at the start of every troubleshooting project. 

Shortcut calculations can be quite useful to the process designer or run-plant engineer they may be used to outline process requirements (stream and equipment sizes) early in a design project, to check the output of a process simulation program for reasonableness, to help analyze or troubleshoot a unit operating in the manufacturing plant or pilot plant, or to help explain performance trends and relationships between key process variables. Data collection and analysis is critical for monitoring system performance. As a minimum the data must be entered in Table 4.7. Mathematical relations for converting field data to performance data are given in Chapter 2. Normalised data must be plotted to study the performance trends, for example RO membrane rejection vs. time and RO productivity vs. time. The key performance parameters in Tables 4.8 and 4.9 should be used in conjunction with normahsed data to evaluate system output. The data along with RO systems design guidelines provided in Chapter 2, and RO projections given in Table 4.1 should be used to monitor and troubleshoot the performance over time.
