Trimodal distributions

This new edition not only includes information on the newer materials but attempts to explain in modifications to Chapter 2 the basis of metallocene polymerisation. Since it is also becoming apparent that successful development with these polymers involves consideration of molecular weight distributions an appendix to Chapter 2 has been added trying to explain in simple terms such concepts as number and molecular weight averages, molecular weight distribution and in particular concepts such as bi- cmd trimodal distributions which are becoming of interest. [Pg.927]

A trimodal distribution is a frequency distribution of a certain phenotype with three peaks separated by two antinodes. [Pg.1243]

TMPT activity in human erythrocytes is transmitted as an autosomic codominant trait [15] and is trimodally distributed, with 89-94% of the individuals having high, 6-11% intermediate, and 0.3% low activity [7, 15-17] (Figure 14.2). The measurement of TPMT activity in erythrocytes closely reflects the ability of bone marrow to inactivate 6-MP. TPMT activity is inversely related to erythrocyte 6-TGN levels [7, 13, 18, 19], and children with low TPMT activity and very high 6-TGN levels experienced profound myelotoxicity [20, 21]. Moreover, TPMT phenotype in erythrocyte reflects that in leukemic blasts [22]. Patients with intermediate TPMT activity had a 5-fold greater cumulative incidence of dose reductions than subjects with high activity [13], and TPMT activity has been inversely related to the time of treatment withdrawal due to cytopenia [21]. [Pg.287]

Our standard procedure in preparative experiments of isotactic polymer is that used in earlier work, where the temperature during initiation was carefully controlled. We initiated the polymerization by mixing initiator solution and monomer solution already thermostatted to a predetermined temperature, usually that chosen for the polymerization. At 230 with t-BuMgBr in THF-toluene mixtures this led to a trimodal distribution with the high molar-mass peak in the 106 range (l.,2). More recent work, shown in Figure 2, has confirmed that trimodal distributions arise when the mol fraction of THF is below ca 0.3. [Pg.188]

When XTjjf 0.10-0.25 (some traces have been omitted from Figure 2 for clarity) trimodal distributions arise. At high THF (Xthf 0.50) the product is monomodal of low molar mass. [Pg.191]

With increased sensitivity, the size-segregating samplers have produced data that are most helpful in characterizing the size and composition of aerosols. The data from these samplers have been used to resolve a bimodal, and sometimes a trimodal, distribution of particles. [Pg.233]

In 1973, Kellermann et al. first drew attention to the genetic variability of AH activity in reporting a trimodal distribution of activity of lymphocytes... [Pg.86]

In fresh leukocytes harvested from workers exposed to dioxin-like substances at waste incinerators, levels of CYP1B1 mRNA appear to have a trimodal distribution (43). Although there is some disagreement about the nature of the distribution (107), there is no question that within a population exposed to similar levels of inducers, individuals can exhibit widely different CYP1B1 induction responses. Human leukocytes from different donors also exhibit a wide range of AHH inducibility after exposure to the prototype inducer, 3-methylcholanthrene, in culture. Cells from most individuals exhibit a lower-inducibility phenotype and only a few individuals demonstrate a high-inducibility response to 3-MC (75,108). [Pg.178]

Data selection criteria have been discussed (Section 4.3). Maltby et al. (2005), in a discussion of the use of tropical or temperate species and lentic or lotic species, deemed it appropriate to include all in the 1 SSD assessment. However, if a substance has a specific mode of action (like a pesticide), it is generally agreed that the SSD should only include taxa from the most sensitive group (e.g., just arthropods for an insecticide). It is not appropriate to include unrelated insensitive taxa in such a distribution (e.g., algae in an SSD for an insecticide) since it will result in a bi- or trimodal distribution and thus a poor fit. [Pg.65]

We routinely use nose-only inhalation exposure of B(a)P aerosol to evaluate the consequence of prenatal exposure to this toxicant on physiological and behavioral endpoints. The properties of this B(a)P aerosol are shown in Figure 17.4. The aerosol typically exhibits a trimodal distribution with a 93% cumulative mass less than 5.85 pm, 89% cumulative mass less than 10 pm, 55.3% cumulative mass less than 2.5 pm, and 38% less than 1 pm. Fifty-five percent of the aerosol generally has a cumulative mass less than PM2.5 and the mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) + geometric standard deviation for this mode is consistently 1.7 =E 0.085 pm. For several years we employed a rat model exposing timed pregnant dams to inhalation concentrations of 25, 75, and 100 pg/m. ... [Pg.233]

Figure 2.28 shows a trimodal distribution together with the parent distributions (1 1 1 mixture). This may be easily resolved into its component parts if the parent distributions do not intersect Figure 2.29). [Pg.122]
