Fatty Acid Esters and Fatty Alcohols Fatty acid esters are obtained by transesterification of triglycerides (vegetable oils) or by esterification of fatty acid with alcohol or polyols. Fatty alcohols are obtained by hydrogenation of esters on metal catalysts.
