Trichophyton violaceum

It is obtained from Streptomyces notalensis and it is found effective against Trichophyton violaceum, Trichomonas vaginalis and Aspergillusfumigatus. It is used as eye ointment in keratitis due to Fusarium and Cephalosporium and as an inhalation in bronchopulmonary aspergillosis and candidiasis. [Pg.345]

There are three forms of hair invasion ectothrix (M. canis, M. audouinii, Microsporum ferrugineum, Trichophyton verrucosum), endothrix (Trichophyton tonsurans, Trichophyton violaceum, Trichophyton soudanense) and favic (Trichophyton schoenleinii). Favus is a rarely seen condition in small endemic areas of Northern Africa, the Middle East and the USA. It presents with typical dish-like crusts (scutulae) and scarring alopecia and may also affect adults. [Pg.139]

Several quinonoid pigments were isolated from the mycelium of Aspergillus. In addition to the known xanthomegnin, two heptacyclic heterocyclic quinones, viopurpurin (145, R = OH) and rubrosulphin (145, R = H), were isolated. For viopurpurin, which was previously isolated from Trichophyton violaceum, another structure was proposed (66CJC2873 69CJC1223), but chemical and spectroscopic evidence favor the revised structure (145, R = OH)(75JCS(Pl)163). [Pg.67]

The dermatophytes are a group of keratinophilic fungi that can metabolize keratin —the principal protein in skin, nails and hair. Tinea capitis is defined as the infection of the hair and scalp with a dermatophyte, usually Microsporum canis or Trichophyton violaceum. In Europe and North Africa T. violaceum may be responsible for approximately 60% of cases of tinea capitis. This condition is characterized by a mild scaling and loss of hair and in some cases it may be contagious. Tinea corporis is... [Pg.56]
