Trichodermin from Trichoderma viride

A group of compounds 147-150, belonging to the trichothecenes class of sesquiterpenes, have been isolated from several Trichoderma species [216-222]. The least toxic, insofar as mammals are concerned, is the simplest structure of all, trichodermin, isolated from Trichoderma viride. In 1911, Raphael et al. published the total synthesis of racemic trichodermin (375), which was the first synthesis of a member of the trichothecene family (379). Trichodermin (375) was isolated initially by Vangedal et al. from the culture fluid of a strain of Trichoderma viride in 1965 320).
