Transparency of polymers

Dynamic sieving capillary electrophoresis (DSCE) employs a polymer solution as the sieving agent. It is introduced into the capillary under pressure and replenished after each analysis. The UV transparency of polymer solutions enables determination of native proteins. DSCE can be used for molecular weight determination of SDS-protein complexes because they migrate proportional to their molecular size. Polymer systems have been developed that provide good resolution of proteins in the 14-200 kDA range. [Pg.254]

The extent of crystallinity and size of crystals where present affect the transparency of polymers. Polyethylene (far left) is highly crystalline and cloudy polystyrene (centre) is amorphous and transparent and poly (ethylene terephthalate) s crystals are too small to interfere with light (far right). [Pg.100]

Mechanical properties and an optical transparency of polymer films, their phase structure and crystallinity, and also communication of mechanical and optical properties with a microstructure of polyethylene and granulometric stmcture of modifying powders nc-Si were observed. [Pg.69]

Many grotqrs are working hard to increase the transparency of polymer binders for 157-nm photoresists. In most cases this is being accomplished by incorporating fluorine into the polymer chain either in the backbone or in pendtmt groips. The absorbance at 157 nm (A157) has been shown to decrease as the amount of fluorine in die polymer increases. [Pg.59]

Stretching is employed to improve the mechanical strength and the transparency of polymers. Uniaxial stretching and biaxial stretching are industrially utilized to obtain hlms with good mechanical properties. Giving orientation to SPS improves the brittle nature of SPS. In this section, the properties of oriented SPS are presented. [Pg.281]

Increase of transparency of polymer-oligomer films was observed in the presence of surfactant at C < And the increase of absolute value in this ease was eaused not by improvement of thermodynamie affinity of mixture s components, but by the deerease size of emulsion drops, whieh took plaee in the presenee of surfaetant. This experiment was earried out by the nephelometrie method, which was able to register partieles in a size above 1000 A° only [121], All the heterogeneities and phase formations of smaller size, existing in this system, eannot be captured by this method. [Pg.220]
