Trans/gauche conformers transition

Since, in the intermediate regime, the time explored is longer than the characteristic time for the various trans-gauche conformational transitions (which in turn depends on the chemical nature of the monomers), the dynamical behavior of the polymer chain in this regime is independent of the chemistry of the chain. We call this independence of the local details as the global features of the chain dynamics. [Pg.28]

Other Polysilylenes. The symmetrically substituted poly(di-n-tetra-decylsilylene) is reported to have a TGTG trans-gauche-trans-gauche ) conformation, and a bathochromic shift is observed in the UV spectrum at 54 °G with Xjnax shifting from 322 to 350 nm (35). The structures of many polysilylenes may be more complicated than what have been discussed thus far. As an example, the DSG data for PMHS are shown in Figure 24, The figure shows that Tg (glass transition temperature) is 220 K and that two... [Pg.371]

Experimental results described in the preceding sections rule out a possibility that the optical inversion by solvent in poly(propylene oxide) is correlated with a helix-coil transition or a trans-gauche conformational change. [Pg.323]

Monolayer Films at the A/W Interface. Previous studies of phospholipid monolayers at gas-liquid interfaces have shown that it is possible to follow the first order thermodynamic phase transition of these monolayer films using the infrared reflectance techniques described in this manuscript (see e.g. ref. 6 and references cited therein). For long chain hydrocarbon molecules, it has been demonstrated that the frequencies of the antisymmetric and symmetric CH2 stretching vibrations are conformation-sensitive, and may be empirically correlated with the order (i.e. the trans-gauche character) of the hydrocarbon chains (9-11). [Pg.196]
