Tranquilizers drug interactions

Drug interactions barbiturates, tranquilizers, other narcotics, antihistamines, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, and alcohol can all increase CNS depression. The risk of bradycardia and hypotension increases for patients on beta blockers and calcium channel blockers. Cimetidine, used to treat peptic ulcers, interacts with sufentanil and increases the risk of respiratory depression. 

Drugs that may interact include MAO inhibitors, barbiturates, tranquilizers, narcotics, and alcohol. 

It is particularly important, while taking these drugs, that you do not mix this medical use with the recreational use of alcohol or other drugs. The effects of prescriptive medication (tranquilizers, for example) can be amplified by additional substance use (taking another depressant like alcohol, for example), and the interaction can be dangerous in unpredictable ways."...

General consideration oxymorphone should be started at 1/3 to 1/2 of the usual dose in patients who are concurrently receiving other CNS depressants including sedatives or hypnotics, general anesthetics, phenothiazines, tranquilizers, and alcohol, because respiratory depression, hypotension, and profound sedation or coma may result. No specific interaction between oxymorphone and monoamine oxidase inhibitors has been observed, but caution in the use of any opioid in patients taking this class of drugs is appropriate.
