Total Operations Solutions

Building upon the experience of the holistic models for Total Manufacturing Solutions and Total Operations Solutions we have now developed a model for Total Supply Chain Management comprising six building blocks, viz. ... [Pg.26]

Total Operations Solutions (Basu and Wright, 2005) enables self-assessment against 20 defined areas (called foundation stones ) to identify areas of improvement for achieving the full potential of the business. The business is built from these foundation stones up, and consists of the six pillars of Total Solutions. The pillars are ... [Pg.349]

With Total Operations Solutions larger projects are selected based upon an organization s strategic goals and requirements. The viability of the project is then established based on certain quantifiable criteria including ROI and strategic goals. With Total Operations Solutions, before any improvement project is commenced five factors are considered ... [Pg.350]

A recurring challenge for companies who have invested significant time and resources in implementing proven improvement plans such as Total Operations Solutions or Six Sigma is how to ensure sustainable performance beyond the duration of a one-off corporate exercise. The annual review of the change... [Pg.350]

Manufacture. Aqueous sodium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, or sodium sulfite solution are treated with sulfur dioxide to produce sodium metabisulfite solution. In one operation, the mother Hquor from the previous batch is reinforced with additional sodium carbonate, which need not be totally in solution, and then is treated with sulfur dioxide (341,342). In some plants, the reaction is conducted in a series of two or more stainless steel vessels or columns in which the sulfur dioxide is passed countercurrent to the alkaH. The solution is cooled and the sodium metabisulfite is removed by centrifuging or filtration. Rapid drying, eg, in a stream-heated shelf dryer or a flash dryer, avoids excessive decomposition or oxidation to which moist sodium metabisulfite is susceptible. [Pg.149]

Mo is the molar mass of solute. The injected solute molecules are diluted in the supernatant inside the cell and a fraction of them subsequently adsorbs onto solid particles. They displace a certain amount of water pre-adsorbed at the solid-water interface, because of the limited extent of the adsorption space. At equilibrium, there are m grams of water and n moles of solute adsorbed per unit mass of adsorbent. The total operation induces a thermal effect and alters the equilibrium which is recorded as a thermal peak (after about 15-20 min the signal returns to the baseline). These data, once processed by the software, yield the related enthalpy change AexpH. [Pg.808]

The time needed for the total operation is 3-5 riin. The chromatographic process is stopped during this interval. The yield of the substances investigated is 60-802 and is dependent on the difference between the vapour pressure of the solute and the solvent. [Pg.168]

The 2 kW SILVER IF system was at the Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center (ECBC) facihty and the 12 kW SILVER IF system was at the Aberdeen Test Center Firebox. More detailed descriptions of the total system solution and the unit operations can be found in the original NRC ACWI report (NRC, 1999). [Pg.27]

In a review by Wee 2006, the parameters of DBFCs are compared with those of DMFCs. It was shown that a DBFC system is superior to that of a DMFC system in terms of cell size and fuel solution consnmption. From an economic point of view (total operating costs) a DBFC system is more favorable in specific portable applications such as miniaturized or micro power systems with short operational time spans. In a review paper, Liu and Li (2009) mention that some problems in the field of DBHFCs (e.g., hydrogen evolution, BH crossover, and nonplatinum catalysts) remain to be investigated further and solved. [Pg.93]

The previous discussion has centered on how to obtain as much molecular mass and chemical structure information as possible from a given sample. However, there are many uses of mass spectrometry where precise isotope ratios are needed and total molecular mass information is unimportant. For accurate measurement of isotope ratio, the sample can be vaporized and then directed into a plasma torch. The sample can be a gas or a solution that is vaporized to form an aerosol, or it can be a solid that is vaporized to an aerosol by laser ablation. Whatever method is used to vaporize the sample, it is then swept into the flame of a plasma torch. Operating at temperatures of about 5000 K and containing large numbers of gas ions and electrons, the plasma completely fragments all substances into ionized atoms within a few milliseconds. The ionized atoms are then passed into a mass analyzer for measurement of their atomic mass and abundance of isotopes. Even intractable substances such as glass, ceramics, rock, and bone can be examined directly by this technique. [Pg.284]
