Tomlinson

When I was at school I was first attracted to chemistry because of the delightful blue colour the word conjured up for me. To me all words have colour the colours are perhaps less vivid than they were when I was a child and I remember being amazed when I discovered that to most people words are not [Pg.248]

This colour-thinking, as Tomlinson called it, is a rare condition known as synesthesia, in which stimulation of one sense causes an unusual response in another.93 [Pg.249]

Tomlinson was invited back to Oxford as fellow at St. Hilda s in 1946, and then became university Lecturer in 1948. One of her students in the 1950s, Margaret Goodgame, recalled  [Pg.249]

She was keen on practical work, and expected us to work in the labs most of the hours they were open — 11 am to 7 pm Monday to Friday plus Saturday morning. Lectures were usually 9-11 am. [Pg.249]

Essays and other tutorial work were to be done at other times. [Pg.250]

Thus, y is the slope of the plot of A// against AG at the harmonic mean temperature, and from y the isokinetic temperature P is calculated. Tomlinson has shown many examples of this type of analysis. [Pg.371]
