There are a number of questions that must be answered ia order to maximize the beaefits of hydroxyapatite, eg, how thick the coatiag should be how should the coatiag be appHed to the implant is the chemical composition oa the implant the same as before the appHcatioa what is the nature of the titanium or titanium aHoy hydroxyapatite interface, how strong is it, and by what means is it bonded and what is the interfacial microstmcture ... [Pg.495]

Samples were tested on in a melt of salts (75% Na SO, 25% NaCl) at 950°C in an air atmosphere for 24 hours. Micro X-rays spectrum by the analysis found that the chemical composition of carbides of an alloy of the ZMI-3C and test alloys differs noticeably. In the monocarbide of phase composition of an alloy of the ZMI-3C there increased concentration of titanium and tungsten is observed in comparison with test alloys containing chemical composition tantalum. The concentration of more than 2% of tantalum in test alloys has allowed mostly to deduce tungsten from a mono carbide phase (MC) into solid solution. Thus resistance of test alloys LCD has been increased essentially, as carbide phase is mostly sensitive aggressive environments influence. The critical value of total molybdenum and tungsten concentration in MC should not exceed 15%. [Pg.437]

Fabrication of titania nanotube arrays via anodic oxidation of titanium foil in fluoride based solutions was first reported in 2001 by Gong and co-workers [58]. Further studies focused on precise control and extension of the nanotube morphology [21], length and pore size [22], and wall thickness [3]. Electrolyte composition plays a critical role in determining the resultant nanotube array architecture and, potentially, its chemical composition. Electrolyte composition determines both the rate of nanotube array formation, as well as the rate at which the resultant oxide is dissolved. In most cases, a fluoride ion containing electrolyte is needed for nanotube array formation. In an effort to shift the band gap of the titania... [Pg.268]

Based on cp-AFM evidence for the simple case of an n-alkanethiolate/Au SAM, the M structures show no evidence for penetration of metal to form conducting filaments that can cause shorts. The resultant junctions, however, do show extensive formation of reaction product layers with complex chemical compositions which may lead to unfavorable characteristics for molecular device operation. Indeed, in recent reports the use of Ti deposition on LB films, which contain water and inorganic salts at the bottom Pt electrode/LB film interface, leads to formation of inorganic titanium oxide type species in the junction but these complex inorganic layers have also been reported to impart fortuitously quite useful device... [Pg.253]

The bulk chemical composition of the dust, obtained by averaging the compositions of particles in numerous tracks (Fig. 12.11a) and impact crater residues (Fig. 12.11b), is chondritic for iron, silicon, titanium, chromium, manganese, nickel, germanium, and selenium, within the 2o confidence level (Flynn el al., 2006). Copper, zinc, and gallium are... [Pg.427]

RROOKITE. Rrookite, composed of titanium dioxide, Ti02, is an orthorhombic mineral of the same chemical composition as rutile and octahedrite. It was named for the English mineralogist H.J. Brooke. See also Rutile and Titanium Dioxide. [Pg.259]

Acrylics. Manufacturers of acrylic fibers have not generally published or confirmed the chemical composition of their fibers (116). Acrylic fiber will generally contain 85-94% acrylonitrile the balance is made up of comonomers having a specific function, such as to provide dye affinity for specific dye classes or to regulate diffusion of dye into the fiber. A list of typical comonomers has been published (116). Acrylic fibers may also contain heat (117) and light stabilizers (116). They may also contain a delustrant such as titanium dioxide. Some products contain optical brightening agents. These materials probably never exceed 4r-5% of the total composition. The cross-sectional shapes of the fibers vary (116). [Pg.226]

The Apollo 11 rocks contain large amounts of ilmenite, as can be seen from Tables 2 and 3 (high titanium content). We have plotted the chemical composition of rock sample 12018 in Fig. 3a vs. that of the carbonaceous chondrites (the most primitive of all meteorites), in Fig. 3b vs. the basaltic achondrite (eucrite) Juvinas (a class of meteorites which have undergone magmatic differentiation) and in Fig. 4 vs. the average composition of the Earth s... [Pg.119]

Recently a new-generation tube material has emerged, called Micro Alloy [1490]-[1493]. This contains not only niobium but also titanium and zirconium (or lanthanum), and has improved creep rupture strength still further. Table 24 shows the chemical composition of the tube materials. [Pg.80]

The constancy of refractory element ratios in the Earth s mantle, discussed before, is documented in the most primitive samples from the Earth s mantle. Figure 8 plots (modified from Jochum et ai, 1989) the PM-normalized abundances of 21 refractory elements from four fertile spinel Iherzolites. These four samples closely approach, in their bulk chemical composition, the primitive upper mantle as defined in the previous section. The patterns of most of the REEs (up to praseodymium) and of titanium, zirconium, and yttrium are essentially flat. The three... [Pg.726]
