Powdered opium, U.S.R, is a light brown, bitter, fine powder, supplied for clinical use in capsule, tablet, or pill form. The average adult dose is 0.06 gram taken orally. This is equivalent to 6 mgm of morphine, the official morphine content of opium being 10% by weight. Opium tincture (Laudanum, deodorized opium tincture), U.S.R, is a hydroalcoholic solution containing 10% of opium (1.0% of morphine). TINCTURES. Alcoholic or hydroalcoholic solutions usually containing the active principles of botanicals in comparatively low concentrations. They are generally prepared either by maceration or percolation or by dilution of their corresponding fluid extracts or native extracts. The strengths of tinctures are generally 1 0.1 or 1 0.2 TNF-a. Tumor necrosis factor alpha TPA. 12-0-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate TRP-p-1. 3-Amino- l,4-dimethyl-5//-pyrido... [Pg.699]

To make a tincture, which is a hydroalcoholic (water and alcohol) extract, use 1 part semifresh berries for every 3 parts of solution made up of 70 percent ethyl alcohol and 30 percent water. The dosage is 3 to 4 milliliters (60 to 80 drops), three to four times a day. Eclectic practitioners believed that the best preparation of Serenoa is made with the fresh ripe berries. The extract should have a strong, ethereal, aromatic flavor and will precipitate when it is mixed in large amounts with water. In small amounts it produces an opalescent mixture. If it is rubbed between the fingers, a greasy sensation occurs, and the pronounced aroma of the berries is quite obvious. [Pg.30]
