Sample and blank gel pieces were cut into approximately 1x2 mm sections, placed in 1.5 ml Eppendorf tubes and covered with 150 pl/gel band of 50% CHjCN/ 0.2 M ammonium carbonate, pH 8.9. After washing for 20 minutes at room temperature (RT) on a tilt table, the wash solution was removed and this step repeated once (note, if a tilt table is not available, the samples may be intermittently vortexed). 

Peptides were extracted by adding 100 pi 0.1% TFA, 60% CHjCN (or more, if necessary to completely immerse the gel pieces) followed by a 30 min incubation at RT on a tilt table or with intermittent vortexing. 

After removing the supemate, the gel slices were washed at RT on a tilt table for 30 min and then twice more for 15 min with 250 ftl Buffer B. 

After incubating at 37 C for 24 hr, peptides were extracted with 100 fil (or a volume equal to the gel volume if that is larger) Buffer A for one hour at RT on a tilt table. 

With steel on steel surfaces, substantially the same results were obtained with a dead load of 40 lbs instead of 6 lbs on the tilting table.

The hydraulic presses (cryopresses) are described in Table 3-2. The press base is a tilt table that discharges the cracked munitions into a discharge chute, which in turn discharges both the metal and frozen agent into the feed chute... 

Not until automatic tilt tables were provided, along with other steps to redesign the work, were the ergonomic stresses — and the workers compensation cases — reduced. 

There have been numerous studies on the utility of tilt-table testing in the evaluation of neurocardiogenic syncope, that have made it a well-established component in the diagnostic work-up of this disorder (31-36). 

The prototype of the ILR was implanted in patients with recurrent and unexplained syncope after extensive noninvasive and invasive testing was unrevealing (44). The device allowed a correlation between symptoms and rhythms with 85% success. In another trial (45) the ILR provided symptom-rhythm correlation in 7 (47%) of 15 patients who had unexplained syncope and a negative work-up. This included a negative tilt-table test and electro-physiological study.

The most common indications for a PTC are (1) the evaluation of obstructive jaundice of unknown etiology, (2) following unsuccessful ERC, and (3) as the initial stage of percutaneous biliary drainage (PBD). PTC and PBD are performed as sterile procedures using a fiuoroscopic unit, ideally one equipped with a C-arm and a tilting table. 

The smectic phases form well-defined layers that can slide over one another in a manner similar to that of soap. In the smectics, the molecules are thus positionally ordered along one direction. There are several typ>es of smectic mesophases, characterized by a variety of molecular arrangements within the layers, such as smectic A (SmA), smertic B (SmB), and smectic C (SmC). In the SmA phase, the mean orientation of the molecules is parallel to the layer normal, whereas in the SmC phase it is tilted (Table 2). 

Not until automatic tilt tables were provided, along with other steps to redesign the work, were the ergonomic stresses—and the workers compensation cases—reduced. Training and personal protective equipment were not proper solutions for this situation, and the temporary fixes cost far more than would have been expended if the issues were addressed in the original design processes.
