Till diesel

The ESR exit line should be connected to the main water lines in the plant through solenoid valves which open automatically (with arrangement to open manually if it does not open) when power supply fails or when pressure in main line falls below a set pressure. This is to maintain supply of water to all important points of use till diesel generator set is started for resuming power supply to important pumps and other units. It will give the operators the vital 15-20 min to take necessary steps till these pumps are restarted (on power supply from the DG sets—which will be gradually loaded). [Pg.195]

Such redistribution of contaminated soil has been tried in a variety of contexts reviewed later in this chapter, but it is helpful to illustrate two potential results, as noted in the work of Wang et al. (1990) and Park et al. (1990). In the former Case, extensive removal of PAHs from soil contaminated with a diesel fuel was observed in lysimeter test systems following fertilizer addition, liming and tilling. Even HMW PAHs were substantially removed by this process, making this study noteworthy because of the high extent of degradation. These results represent the... [Pg.131]

Many hydrocarbons bind quite tightly to soil components, and are thereby less available to microbial degradation. Intrinsic biodegradation occurs, but it usually only removes the lightest refined products, such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Active intervention is typically required. Usually the least expensive approach is in situ remediation, typically with the addition of nutrients, and the attempted optimization of moisture and oxygen by tilling. [Pg.208]

Hydrogen represents, currently, the most potent fuel going - packing almost three times gasoline s energy -, and its employment is considered able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions till 60% compared with diesel based systems. [Pg.139]

The efficacy of land treatment for spills of oil and oil products is confirmed in carefully controlled experiments in the laboratory and in the field. Thus, the hydrocarbons in gasoline, jet fuel, and heating oil are extensively degraded in soils treated with fertilizer, lime, and simulated tilling. This approach reduces the total hydrocarbons by up to 95%, eliminates polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and results in complete detoxification in a few months. Crude oil, crankcase oil, jet fuel, heating oil, and diesel oil disappear faster than in a soil without these treatments. [Pg.291]

A typical atomization peak of manganese is shown in Fig. 3. In this case, due to the very low Mn content in diesel fuel, manganese is added to the diesel, so that 0.2 ng Mn are injected together with the sample aliquot. The peak shape shows some tailing till the end of the atomization step. The background is very limited and almost continuous during the step. [Pg.62]

The Fischer-Tropsch s)mthesis is a process to convert synthesis gas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) to hydrocarbons that can be used as for instance transportation fuels. In the process all (straight chain) hydrocarbons fi om methane to heavy waxes are produced. In general this product distribution can be described by an Anderson-Schulz-Flory distribution based on a constant chain growth probability. As a consequence the selectivity towards diesel production is limited. When the diesel fraction is defined as CIO till C20, the maximum fraction of diesel that can be obtained is 39.4%, reached at a chain growth probability of 0.87. [Pg.255]
