Tidal waves

The Greenman decision was a watershed, and privity-free strict HabiUty in tort swept the country as a tidal wave. In 1965, the American Law Institute embraced the concept in Section 402A, and thousands of decisions cited to the Restatement. Within a decade the decision became the majority rule in the United States in the 1990s all but a tiny minority of states ascribe to it. 

Besides the inherent lateral natural frequency characteristic, compressors are also influenced by torsional natural frequencies. All torsionally flexible drive trains are subject to non-steady or oscillatory excitation torques during normal operation of the system. These excitation torques can be an inherent function of either the driver or the driven equipment and, when superimposed on the normal operating torque, may appear to be of negligible concern. However, when combined with the high inertia loads of many turbomachinery trains and a torsional resonant frequency of the system, these diminutive ripples can result in a tidal wave of problems. 

External events have also triggered important changes. At least 30 meteorites hit Earth each year, but collisions with very large meteorites are very rare. One, about 10 km in diameter that collided with Earth 65 million years ago, caused massive firestorms and tidal waves and triggered the extinction of many species of marine organisms and all terrestrial animals larger than about 25 kg in body weight. 

I would like to finish this section by a discussion of the time dependence of the relaxation process due to gCK fluctuation and decay. The photoionization process suddenly creates a HF-like 4p core hole and the time development of this hole is very different in the broadband and the narrow-band cases. As discussed in Sect. 3.5, the effect of the gCK fluctuation process is to introduce an angular correlation between dipolar deformations of the charge densities of the 4 p hole and the 4 d shell. The 4 p hole begins to create a tidal wave in the 4 d shell and the time rR that it takes to build up this deformed state is the relaxation time, given by... 

In Pd the 4 p width is considerably larger than the shift which means that during the formation of the tidal wave, the energy loss ( friction") is dominant and a maximum relaxation shift is not very probable. However, this does of course not violate the picture of a 4p hole as a stable excitation in the sense that the total width is still much smaller than the core-hole binding energy. However, in order to observe the Weisskopf-Wigner limit of exponential decay one may have to go back to the elements around 42Mo.

My work has been the primary motivating factor in my life because I feel so encouraged by the thousands of patients whose lives and vitality have been restored by natural means. Nature always has a remedy, but sometimes she needs a helping hand. 1 only wish that the long, slow increase of national interest in natural and alternative healing methods demonstrated over the last two decades would suddenly escalate into a tidal wave that would cleanse our nation of the many plagues that beset it in our time. 

Baltic Sea, the tidal wave will heavily damped out in the Baltic Sea.

When President Nixon and his staff walked into the White House on January 20, 1969, we were totally unprepared for the tidal wave of public opinion in favor of cleaning up the environment that was about to engulf us.
