Threshold pressure, definition

Threshold lamit Value - The term refers to toxicity by inhalation. The abbreviation used is TLV. The TLV is usually expressed in units of parts per million (ppm) - i.e., the parts of vapor (gas) per million parts of contaminated air by volume at 25 °C (77°F) and atmospheric pressure. For chemicals that form a fine mist or dust, the concentration is given in milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m ). The TLV is defined as the concentration of the chemical in air that can be breathed for five consecutive eight-hour workdays (i.e., 40 hours per week) by most people without suffering adverse health effiects. This is the definition given by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. 

The normative approach to the practice of medicine, based on the definition of thresholds, is a different paradigm from the continuous distribution of most biological parameters and their associated risks, as described by physiologists and epidemiologists (360-362). Blood pressure, cholesterol, and renin have a logarithmic gaussian distribution in populations. Renin dependency, for instance, may be considered as a constant feature of all humans except when they have a positive sodium balance, which more or less mimics schematic animal models such as DOCA hypertension (349). In this extreme situation, cardiac, renal, and vascular damages may be direcdy induced by the excess of salt itself, in the absence of any functional RAS (363).

Rhode (20) reported an immediate increase in the threshold for pain and temperature after 15 mg. of morphine subcutaneously, but touch and pressure sensations were only slightly decreased. Griinthal and Hoefer (21) noted no definite effect on cold and warm sensations after 10 mg. of morphine, but pain and pressure sensations were definitely diminished. 

The reference sound pressure used here is the sound pressure of a sinus sound with a frequency of 1 kHz the human ear is barely able to perceive it (hearing threshold). The sound energy penetrating through the area unit per unit of time is described as sound intensity, sound density, or sound level J. The value of sound intensity at the hearing threshold is approximately /(,= 10 W/m. This value permits a definition of the sound intensity level with the help of Equation (6-2) ... 

The signals in the isotherm that indicate mesoporosity are the type IV and V isotherm or feature 3 in the standard plot designation, that is a positive curvature at pressure well above the threshold in the standard or x plot.
