The architecture of the static three layers of feed-forward neural network is shown in Fig. 1. This model is trained with the process dynamic parameto s and measured quality at the same time interval. Therefore, it works as a static model. The output of SFNN is calculated according to... [Pg.418]

An artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed to predict the structure of the mesoporous materials based on the composition of their synthesis mixtures. The predictive ability of the networks was tested through comparison of the mesophase structures predicted by the model and those actually determined by XRD. Among the various ANN models available, three-layer feed-forward neural networks with one hidden layer are known to be universal approximators [11, 12]. The neural network retained in this work is described by the following set of equations that correlate the network output S (currently, the structure of the material) to the input variables U, which represent here the normalized composition of the synthesis mixture ... [Pg.872]

As a chemometric quantitative modeling technique, ANN stands far apart from all of the regression methods mentioned previously, for several reasons. First of all, the model structure cannot be easily shown using a simple mathematical expression, but rather requires a map of the network architecture. A simplified example of a feed-forward neural network architecture is shown in Figure 8.17. Such a network structure basically consists of three layers, each of which represent a set of data values and possibly data processing instructions. The input layer contains the inputs to the model (11-14). [Pg.264]

The first application of a neural network in NMR was proposed by Thomsen and Meyer who analyzed one-dimensional spectra of simple molecules before application to complex oligosaccharides. Kjter and Poulsen - showed that the center of COSY cross-peaks can be found using neural networks. Their implementation consists of a feed-forward three-layer with 256 inputs programmed using a back-propagation error algorithm. As shown by Come et NOESY... [Pg.193]

After successful lesion detection, morphological and dynamic features have to be assessed manually or automatically. These features may then be analyzed to come to a probability of malignancy. By 1997 Abdolmaleki et al. (1997) had already assessed six manually obtained features by a three-layer feed-forward neural network, and showed that methods of artificial intelligence are capable of dif-... [Pg.366]

ENVI 4.7 software was used for training and testing the neural networks. A three-layer feed-forward networks that consists of an input layer, one hidden layer, and one output layer was used as a networks structure. A total of 3256 grid cells (1628 landslides and 1628 non-landslides) were selected as training sites, and factors were then adjusted as below (Xu et al. 2012b) ... [Pg.220]

To explain the back propagation algorithm, a simple feed-forward neural network of three layers (input, hidden and output) is used. The network input will be denoted by Xj, the output of the hidden neurons by Hi, that of the output neurons by >i. The weights of the links between the input and the hidden layer are written as w,j, where i refers to the nmnber of the input neuron and j to the number of the hidden neuron. The weights of the links between the hidden and the output layer are denoted as again j stands for the number of the hidden neuron and k for the number of the output neuron. An example network with notation is shown in Fig. 27.3, This network has three input neurons, three hidden neurons and two output neurons, in this case the input layer passes on the inputs, i.e. Ij = Xj. [Pg.364]

Neural network architectures 2L/FF = two-layer, feed forward network (i.e., perceptron) 3L or 4L/FF = three- or four-layer, feed-forward network (i.e., multi-layer perceptron). [Pg.104]

The impredict algorithm uses a two-layer, feed-forward neural network to assign the predicted type for each residue (Kneller et al., 1990). In making the predictions, the server uses a FASTA format file with the sequence in either one-letter or three-letter code, as well as the folding class of the protein (a, j8, or a//8). Residues are classified... [Pg.264]

Fig. 2 A small feed-forward neural network for the interpolation of a three-dimensional function, as indicated by the three nodes in the input layer. It has two hidden layers containing four and three nodes, respectively, and one node in the output layer providing the energy E. All fitting parameters are shown as arrows. The bias node acts as an adjustable offset to shift the nonlinear range of the activation functions at the individual nodes.
