Thin small-molecule/polymer film

The apphcation of a high electric field across a thin conjugated polymer film has shown the materials to be electroluminescent (216—218). Until recentiy the development of electroluminescent displays has been confined to the use of inorganic semiconductors and a limited number of small molecule dyes as the emitter materials. Expansion to the broad array of conjugated polymers available gives advantages in control of emission frequency (color) and facihty in device fabrication as a result of the ease of processibiUty of soluble polymers (see Chromogenic materials,electrochromic). [Pg.45]

Polymer LEDs are similar to thin film organic molecular LEDs first reported in 1987 17). Organic molecular LEDs utilize thin films of small organic molecules rather than polymer films as the light-emitting layer. The films of small organic molecules are undoped and have electronic properties comparable to the polymer films used in polymer LEDs. In general, the device physics of polymer LEDs is... [Pg.180]

Laser ablation of polymer films has been extensively investigated, both for application to their surface modification and thin-film deposition and for elucidation of the mechanism [15]. Dopant-induced laser ablation of polymer films has also been investigated [16]. In this technique ablation is induced by excitation not of the target polymer film itself but of a small amount of the photosensitizer doped in the polymer film. When dye molecules are doped site-selectively into the nanoscale microdomain structures of diblock copolymer films, dopant-induced laser ablation is expected to create a change in the morphology of nanoscale structures on the polymer surface. [Pg.204]

In this paper we report the electrochemical polymerization of the PPy-GOD film on the glassy carbon (GC) electrode in enzyme solution without other supporting electrolytes and the electrochemical behavior of the synthesized PPy-GOD film electrode. Because the GOD enzyme molecules were doped into the polymer, the film electrode showed a different cyclic voltammetric behavior from that of a polypyrrole film doped with small anions. The film electrode has a good catalytic behavior to glucose, which is dependent on the film thickness and pH. The interesting result observed is that the thin PPy-GOD film electrode shows selectivity to some hydrophilic pharmaceutical drugs which may result in a new analytical application of the enzyme electrode. [Pg.140]

Permeation and dissolution are the main processes determined by diffusive mass transfer. Permeation of polymers by small molecules depends on their solubility and diffusivity. For both quantities reasonable estimations are possible if some basic data of the permeating molecules (e.g. critical temperature and collision diameter) and of the polymer (structure, glass transition temperature, crystallinity) are known. For the estimation of the permeability of thin layers (films) an additive quantity, the permachor, is available. [Pg.655]

Thermal evaporation is one of the most efficient methods for the preparation of diketo-nate complexe layers. However, many of these compounds are thermally unstable at high temperatnre and reqnire an alternative method. Milder conditions are attained on incorporating snch componnds into polymer host materials, followed by thin film deposition by the spin coating method. In these cases, the luminance of OLED devices is comparable to those measnred for devices fabricated using small molecules and polymer blends. [Pg.163]
