Barcelo [13] characterised selected pesticides by negative ion chemical ionisation thermospray high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Ions observed in the negative ion chemical ionisation spectra corresponded to mechanisms of anion attachment ([M + acetate], electron capture ([M] ) and dissociative electron capture ([M-R] ). Sensitivity was lower in the negative ion chemical ionisation mode than in the positive ion mode. [Pg.183]

HSCCC-thermospray (TSP) MS was initiated using an analytical HSCCC apparatus of a 5-cm revolution radius, equipped with a 0.85-mm-inner diameter (i.d.) polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) column at 2000 rpm [6-8]. Directly interfacing HSCCC to the MS produced, however, a problem in that the high back-pressure generated by the TSP vaporizer often damaged the HSCCC column. To overcome this problem, an additional high-performance liquid chromatography... [Pg.461]

A method that uses high performance liquid chromatography/ mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) for the analysis of chlorinated phenoxyacid herbicides is described. During method development different techniques were used to increase both the sensitivity and the specificity of thermospray HPLC/MS for chlorinated acid herbicides. These included the operation of the instrument in the negative chemical ionization (NCI) mode initiated by discharge and the use of a wire-repeller in the ion source for efficient extraction of positive ions. Single quadrupole repeller-induced and multiple quadrupole collision activated dissociation (CAD) experiments were also performed to increase the structural information of the mass spectra. [Pg.62]
