Thermoplastic polyurethane coating systems

OTHER COMMENTS useful in bonding rubber to rayon and nylon used in two-component polyurethane coating systems used for aircraft, tank trucks, and truck trailers also used to produce polyurethane lacquer coatings applied to certain automobile body components other uses are in production of thermoplastic polyurethane resins and spandex fibers. 

Aircraft coatings normally consist of two coats. The topcoat used for civil aircraft is a high-gloss two-pack polyurethane product, cured with aliphatic isocyanates. Single-coat systems based on thermoplastic acrylic resins have been used for military aircraft, but are being replaced by polyurethane topcoats [11.10]. 

Liquid 2-hydroxyphenyl triazines are also available. They are mainly used in coating systems based on alkyd resins as well as for thermoplastic polyurethanes. 

The two pack acrylic polyurethane was introduced to the automotive refinish markets in the 1970 s as an alternative to the existing synthetic cellulose and thermoplastic acrylic systems. Although their development in this market was rather slow, by the late 1980 s the polyurethane coating dominated the refinish market of Western Europe.

DR pigments are used in paint applications where their properties are required, such as high-temperature paints and coil-coating paint systems based on fluoropoly-mers, silicone-polyester, and plastisol. The NiSbTi and CrSbTi DR pigments are used in trade sale paints including acrylic house paints, general industrial paints in polyester systems, and fleet colors in thermoset acrylic, thermoplastic acrylic, and polyurethane systems. They are also used in polyester-based powder coating applications. 

The non-thermoplastic casein binder ensures processability in the wiping process by reducing sensitivity to heat and improving hot rub resistance. Useful top coats include a nitrocellulose lacquer or an aqueous system with a very hard and hence plating-fast polyurethane dispersion. If necessary, the latter can be crosslinked to improve the rubfastness.
